Should I be killing everything that moves?

I'm not sure how Divine Divinity works yet. I'm killing every creature on the map as I move south. I'm not killing non-combatants but I am killing every single orc, troll, skeleton, etc that I meet. Is this okay? I've been expecting to run into something that I can't beat eventually, but that hasn't happened so far. I just finished the first town and dungeon and am killing my way south to the next red flag. My toughest fights are with Orc Drummers and Heavy Orcs. If I run into a whole party of heavy orcs, I'm toast! How are others playing this?

I'm in Dark forest now and so far i do assure you that there's still more Orc'd war party ahead of you especially across the bridge from Aleroth; and below the dungeon there will different type of deadly assassin, lizard that hurling cannon ball (or something) or lightning lizard that use "light saber", and more importantly there's actually several leaders/bosses that are very challenging (depend on your class) which include:

1)2-3 "special" vampires in certain caves/hideouts
2)one "special" Mummy that attacks you before 20 others fast moving mummies surrounding you!
3)one high ranking Orc (Orc's armies leader).
4)One Demon (with several Orcs) inside castle somewhere

and the most challenging monster so far my character:

5)take a quick look yourself at lowest lower of Ionas's dungeon!!! prepare your ass to get kicked repeatedly!!

Thanks! (Mild Spoilers)

I found some a creature that wipes me out quite easily. It's the boss monster of the Cursed Abbey. I'm level 13 and he kills me with one or two spells The Troll King was tough too, but he fell to some scorpion traps that I conveniently dropped.
