Gothic 2 Review @ Pixel Rage |
|
Pixel Rage have let us know they've posted their Gothic 2 review. It's enthusiastic, describing the gameplay as 'perfect'. Final score is 94%; here's one of the closing paragraphs:

Gothic 2 is probably one of the best RPGs ever, plagued only by bad voice acting and incompetent translators. But that we can easily overlook once we realize the true marvel this game is, not only because of its plot and graphics, but because of the small things you don't even need doing in order to finish the game, but still have been implemented, because the developers cared for the gamers and wanted to offer them as complete an experience as possible.
|

Saying that the voice acting is bad and the translation is incompetent is going a bit too far. The reviewer here has made a sweeping statement that just doesn't stand up.
The fairest assesment of the voice acting would be that it is adequate. At times it is good, and at its worst, it is a bit sloppy. Perhaps the reviewer didn't like the voices chosen, but that is not the same as having bad voice acting. As for the translation, it is fine -- save for a few embarrassing and yes, unforgivable things in the diary. However, saying that the entire thing is incompetent would mean that all those hundereds of lines of dialogue were somehow translated by a computer and sounded like crap.
So, a better line would be ... "Gothic 2 is a great game that is unfortunately plagued by tiny strains of bad voice acting and a few embarrassing translation mistakes" _________________ All shall hear the words of Karras...the words of Karras |
