Maybe Piranha Bytes can answer why it takes so long before we see - if ever - an english version of Gothic? What are the difficulties? Why haven't you secured a publisher yet? Is it that they don't believe in the commercial success of Gothic?

I guess no one has really touched on why Gothic can not get an International/English publisher. So far I have just been blaming stupid publishers that don't know what they are doing. But I guess it could be anyones fault, even PBytes. Maybe they are holding firm on (for example) getting 20% of the games profit when the industry standard is 10% or something. It would be very interesting to know the real reason why there is such trouble getting the game published in English. From what I understand they already have, and have had the English demo finished, but were waiting for a publisher to put the demo out. I guess I am running on just rumors and speculation however. |

I just hope it won't go the same way as Wizardy 8 is going now.
As in: totally finished game but no publisher after months and months and...etc.
If it takes *too* long then it simply won't happen.
However, in the case of Gothic, we have a game that is already out on a limited market (Germany) and is doing very good.
Not superduper bestseller great, but it's selling quite well over there I understand.
So it has proven it's worth in both the marketing area and the gaming area.
I'd say this is even less of a risk then any other game currently not on the international market yet.
I said it before and will say it again: Tap into the dissapointed Ultima 9 Ascension fanbase! Gothic is the game that Ultima 9 should have been.
Trust me on this, I waited so long for U9 and was SO dissapointed it didn't deliver at all. I actually thought such a game couldn't be made properly. Then I played the German Gothic demo....I was wrong.
Gothic rocks and should come out in English. period.

Speaking of taking so long... How did you manage to get scooped on the Gothic English Demo review? And another thing taking long, how long does it takes the boys at PBytes to answer your question? |

Garrett has the demo - and he has a) a RL like all of us and b) been seriously ill (did you notice he has been quite absent lately?). And how long does it take PB to answer? As long as they decide it takes them, I suppose. It is not for me to decide, really.
