Infinite XP points bug?

Well, I was wandering in the fog tower (next to the beach with the fire lizards), and I made my way down to the skeleton mage.

Seems like she (it or whatever) summons 3 skeletons in a wave. Decided to kill each wave, and notices she summons another wave! And another wave after that! Each skeleton gives 250-300 points of XP, which means a level up after about 12 waves (each higher level up needs about 10,000 worth of XP points). I'm at level 17 right now.

Is this "free candy"? Or does she have a limit?

I did notice a fatal bug though...you MUST kill all 3 skeletons before the next wave. The way I did it was that in order to avoid attacks from the mage itself, I lured the 3 skeletons into the corridors and hacked them one by one. It seems by doing this, the mage "forgets" about them, so if you approach the mage again, she summons a wave at you without checking to see if the previous wave was destroyed.

If that happens ( if she summons a new wave when you haven't destroyed all the skeleton from the old one), the game crashes.

I'm about to go on a level up frenzy...but if anyone tried this before, is there a limit to the number of waves? If there's no limit, I just might keep this generous mage alive for the rest of the game (or until a quest requires me to kill it).

theres another mage in the sunken tower, same story but this one is surrounded by lots of zombies. yeah i killed like i dunno, maybe 7 waves from that mage and i got an access violation and it crashed. i reloaded the game and as soon as the models for the skeletons were coming up i got the same error. i decided screw the mage, killed he/she/it, and left. im thinkin of going back there and seeing if the mage is there again because i heard all the monsters are respawned every chapter, that would be a w00t.

I lured the 3 skeletons back to the water and killed them.I then ran around the mage jumping and singing.I just ran around her without hitting any.She spawned 3 more sets of 3.That made 9 + some more came from the other tunnel to join the party. She then started shooting a blue spell at me.I dogded some of them.We had a big party afterwards.I think I will keep Bones around for a while. It is a kill fest.My pc ran very smooth and never crashed.

I did the same thing with the demons (600hp ea.) in the Shadow’s lair. Leveled up twice but then it got boring and if you got some skeletons with you its almost free…

I tried this out, but the skeleton mage stopped to summon skeletons after a couple of waves. =o(
Well, whatever, I killed him then.

Cool tip thou... As a Mage I have the Destroy Undead spell that makes it very easy =)

Well, after reading your post I have come to the concussion that this is a critical bug. I got the access violation (assertion) with that fucking Mage/Skeleton thing too. I tried to hang out and kill all the skeletons that the Skeleton Mage would produce. After so many waves the system would blow up!! On Me, it was an access violation (assertion) reading 0000000f. On XP, it was an access violation (assertion) reading 0000000h (I think that right). In any event the error was the same “Could not delete object already deleted”. After about an hour of cusn’ PB out every way I could think of, I decided to see if I could get past the error. I did, by doing the same as you…running up and just kill’n the bitch.

If any of you guys have a save right before you meet the skeleton Mage in the Sunken Tower, could you verify this bug? I think it will only present itself if you try to hang out and kill all the skeletons from the Skeleton Mage. You might have to run around in front of the Mage to get it to spawn more skeletons.

I accidently saved just before this crash-bug. Only way I could "save" my savegame, was to use the console command "kill" to take out the mage before completing his spell.

(Magic, Melee, Ranged attacks where to slow to take him out in time).

Luckily I completed the "kill" command, so I could continue...

We can say, that this 'bug' (endless waves) also strikes back on you if you misuse it. =)

I agree that this bug is as troublesome as the dissappearing NPC's and the Crawlerqueen Winch bug. =o(
Great stuff for a patch.

I have a suspicion i want to verify when i get home this evening. i get the assertion ~0000000h in XP and the 'could not delete already deleted' error. i am going to pick up all the weapons, leave and come back a couple of days later after the skeletal remains have vanished. then i will go back down and see if the crash happens again.

if anyone knows the amount of time needed to pass for skel corpses to vanish, please post it here.

i'm sure everyone has guess that my theory is there is a limit to the number of spawned objects within a certain area, and the overflow is being caused by not enough room on whatever stack is used to hold information about object status and placement.

I had a problem similar to this when I first entered the Black Goblin cave...

So you might be correct.

I did that…All you have to do is swim out of the tower and go back in and the floor is wiped clean. The room had no objects on the floor and still the game blew up. But you did give me an idea! When I fought the skeletons, I stood on the other side of the pool and just hacked the skeletons as they swam around. Unfortunately, some of the weapons sank to the bottom of the hole and you can not swim down to get them (you can swim down there, see them, but you can not pick them up). I wonder if it has something to do with those objects.

Try killing the skeletons as they spawn…I don’t think the error will show up if you don’t “delete the object”.

Well theres a faster way to get alot of experience points but its going to cost a little dinero. Buy the spells from the necromancer, summon up a bunch of "Army of Darkness" spells and just kill them all since they dont bother to fight back. Or summon up a few demons and Golems and let them fight each other, either way you get the XP points no matter who wins.

Ive only experienced one crash whilst I did this and it wasnt to get XP, I summoned about 5 Army of Darkness spells to aid me when I attacked the Sleeper. Well when I entered the Sleepers area and that cinematic started with Cor Colum...Corlon.... turning around and speaking to me while his novices prayed to the sleeper creature. When the camera turned to me I had about 40 skeletons backing me up... so yeah I felt pretty confident that I'd kick Cor K's botty.

After his little speach ended he cast that magic attack at me and my army of skeletons charged forward.... only to have the game crash with a "Access Violation", 2 critical erorr boxes and another "Access Violation". Needless to say I never tried that again.
