I hate to be the first one posting that it won't run...

...but it won't run. I updated my Nvidia drivers but no go. It seems to be a display problem since I get the autorun screen, but the Options selection does nothing but generate a WinXP error dialog, while the Play option does that, plus makes a small box, like what would be seen just before a game goes into full-screen mode.

Any XP users out there got any success stories? I see a W2k user is getting it to run, but crashing.

Thanks for your time...

Make sure your desktop is set to 32-bit color before you try to run the game or the editor.

Story so far

First off, not running yet. Same problem, refuses to render. Updated my SB Live! drivers, got a new (!) update from WinUpdate regarding rendering issues, reboot, uninstall, reinstall, ugh. Did I say ugh? Ugh.

More detail. Autorun splash screen displays fine. I can open Datafile option. Cannot open Options or Play, I get the error box. I can play mp3 files normally, but I could not play the bik files. I downloaded the Bink player and I could play them (oops, I ran one called mw_end.bik or something, dang it, tried not to look at anything, hehehe). Unfortunately that was not the problem.

No idea what to try. I don't know enough about XP to really dig into it, don't even know how to check my directx setup. I'll put up whatever response Bethesda gives me, which will probably be Monday. I didn't really need that $64.99. Sigh.

Funny thing, I can get Daggerfall to run on this machine just fine. With sound. Ironic, huh?

Desktop

32-bit, check.
1024x768, check.
Maybe I will play with display sizes...

display size no effect

800x600: no change
1600x1200: no change
I'm stumped. And sleepy. Good night and thanks for the tips, I'll read up on this tomorrow.
