Deus Ex for $10

I was in Best Buy just a few hours ago and I saw Deus Ex in a jewel case for 10 dollars. I had never bothered to get this supposedly awesome game before so of course I bought it. when I got home and installed it, on my start menu it says Deus Ex Preview edition!!! so tell me, did I just pay $10 for a freaking demo???
UPDATE
I was just on the planetdeusex boards and I found it is only half of the game...DO NOT buy Deus Ex in the jewel case...it is actually labeled as the "Special Limited Edition"...what a ripoff.

Fear the cheapo jewelcase only games on the bargain racks. They'll do this kind of thing to you.

Caveat Emptor: Let the buyer beware. Always look for the catch... I hate that saying (I feel the seller shouldn't be trying to screw his buyer), but the fact is it is very VERY sound advice.

I had the same kind of thing happen to me with quake 1 a long time ago, when I bought the shareware version for 15.99 at wal-mart I think it was.

It was in a painted cardboard case, and didn't say anything about being shareware, and since I was new to games then, I didnt think twice about it. Got it home, and was quite upset after finding out u needed to send in more money to unlock it.

Atleast it was only 10 bucks, not like 20 or 30 or someting...

I bought that shareware version of Quake too. There were demos of alot of other games on that disk too.

I actually did unlock it. I used like 30 or so floppys to back it up too. Unfortunately when I went to reinstall the game from the floppys after I reinstalled windows they were corrupt. I did manage to find a program that would generate valid keys for that demo disk so I got Quake back without having to pay another 50 for another key or the retail box.

nope, there is no indication that the game is a preview version until you stick it in your computer and install it.

Not that I like Best Buy but they shouldn't be faulted for selling something that was packaged by IonStorm/Eidos.

I say shame on IonStorm/Eidos for packaging this without explicitly saying it is a preview and/or not sending out memos to stores telling them to destroy/send back all copies of this preview disc by now (It was initially sent out probably the time Deus Ex came out, maybe before). It would be different if inside was a coupon that didn't expire for $10 off the full version.

Activision actually distributes the preview version, and I sent them an email...I don't really care about the money it's just the point of the thing. I think I will get a refund though, at least according to people over at planetdeusex who did the same thing and got their money back.
