How does combat system work for melee and range?

Gothic 2 is different from gothic. I need to get this straight. I did some search but couldn't find anything. I didn't search very hard because I am lazy. Sorry.

This is my assumption, but I know it is wrong.

Melee:

Weapon proficiency percentage calculate the probability of critical hits. On a non-critical hit:

Damage = weapon damage * weapon proficiency percentage - armour protection of target

Damage of critical hit = damage of non-critical hit + strength.

Range:

Probability to hit = bow/xbow proficiency * (1 / distance)

Damage = weapon damage + dexterity - armour of target.

Comments and corrections needed.

I thought a non-critical hit was between 5-20 damage nomather what weapon you use. I never did any research so I can be wrong, I just read it in some other topic.

I think your pretty right about some of it, but your critical hit is based on the percentage of your sword skill. So if it was something like 50% to 1hnd or 2hnd then you have a fifty percent chance to hit them.

re: combat efficiency

It seemed that both questions and answers in this thread have been a repeat of a previous thread of the same people.

Anyway, I based on Ellusion's FAQs to calculate the efficiency and never went deeper than that.
