Argh! You're right! I killed the orc long ago but did not find his weapon no matter how I looked (bug?). Also, I never really thought it would be possible to become an apprentice in the demo, so I gave up on the blacksmith.

After reading you post I killed another orc and he did drop a weapon, but only after the second time I tried. What is this weapon drops?

Anyway, I'm glad you were more persistent than I was. I'm at 49 str now, so thanks for the hint.

P.S.: Is there any place other than Brian that you can get crude steel from in the demo?

AFAIK, no. Doesn't he restock after you bought him bare (like the hunter will restock arrows)?

Phalanx: If I were you I wouldn't continue on with that way to get to the other parts of the game. It could ruin the whole gothic 2 experience.

This begs the question, doesn't that make you wonder why you are hanging out in a spoiler forum? :p

I say that because the non-completed demo could surely destroy some surprises, its a matter of a almost void landscape with few NPCS to a full version game with everything thats intended to be.

I played the demo some, even though I only know complex german stuff like "ich bin, du bist" and words that are almost similar to English words, mainly because i found Gothic 1 to be the most entertaining RPG gaming experience I ever had the fortune to play

In the G2 demo, i only understood stuff like "Show me your wares" and praying to Innos. On the alternative route, the hidden one behind Khorinis, i found a Dragon Moss that boosts your strength by 1.

Heh, and one more thing, i lured the orcish warrior on the left, before the main gate of Khorinis, back towards the shadowbeast there, who made quick work of the poor orc fella (I even took his axe, which is very sucky, dealing 30 dmg for 40 req str), then i lured the shadowbeast back to the gates. Luring works wonders in this game, especially when your strength is as high as 10

My mistake, i killed that Gritta girlie and the guys remembered me, they say they dont want to have anything to do with a murderer.

I LOVE this game, but the German version is unbearable for me. Come on guys, translate it faster plz

Oh, and btw, one more thing. Near the farm in the hidden area of the demo, right beyond the bridge guarded by three goblins, there are two guys wearing armors similar to those New Camp guys in Gothic 1. Well, check this cool thing out. I went forward, past the rocky stairs and on the left there is a cave with two normal bandits, and one with a bow and a New Camp style armour. I lured the guy in the New Camp armor all the way back to the farm, and the farmers attacked him

Well, i guess one of the farmers accidentally hit one of the two New Camp guys that were standing there before, and they all got mad, and there was total mayhem Well, thing is the guys in new camp armours have two great weapons, a two handed sword (zweihander) and a war axe (kriegaxe or something). FUNNY STUFF !

How, sounds like alot of you are pretty far in the Demo.

I managed to get passed that invisible barrier by climbing a light pole near a roof and sliding down the outside wall. After that I spent hours just exploring and have managed to stumble onto most of the things I hear you guys talking about.

The scariest thing happened when I attemped to lure a shadowbeast into the vacinity of some bandits, at night. It took many tries, but during one of them, I turned back to see if the beast was following. There was a good distance of open space between me and the nearest brush, incase he popped out I could turn and run. I took a few quick steps toward the brush when the beast leaped out and killed me with one stroke of his paw. I don't know why, but for some reason that one incident made me scream. It just happened so quick and out of nowhere. Eventually I got him to follow me to the bandits where he turned on them. That gave me time to sneak into thier tower and raid there chest. It also allowed me to get into the beasts cave, since the bandits slayed him.

Anyway, although I've been almost everywhere, including the island with a secret cave, I've only gained one level, some farmers clothes, and a bunch of strong weapons that I can't use. At least I rich. However I can't seem to get back inside the invisible barrier. Err!

I must say, although I've only used a field bow with no expieriance, it seems archery is greatly improved. Arrows stick in wood and bounce off hard objects like armor and brick. Very cool. Too bad you can't recover arrows you shoot in wood.

Can't wait for those translations.

Bah, 8 hours is nothing... Don't count your time with Gothic. You will be able to play during 40 hours with the demo.

Where can you find an orc?

Just start over again.

They seem to do that when there's a fight going on. A lizard followed me to the farm and the same thing happened. After the fight the farmer thanked me for my help.

It's a bit confusing isn't it... trying to get the arrow in focus only to find it's part of the scenery.

I only encontered the leather armor. As to weapons, IIRC there was a zweihander doing something like 45 damage, but requiring 60 strength or so. I'm using a lighter Zweihander that is doing 35 or 40, I think. Without any possible training it's a slow weapon, but damage is pretty good.

There's one in the forest, close to the town entrance. Another one at the opposite side of the town, beyond the invisible barrier. And there are still others, I'm sure you will find them in due time. :p

Question: How do I get out of the island's treasure room?? The spikes get me everytime.
I can't run-then-jump like I did going in.

What's your IP? I'll come and get you out... no wait... wrong game. Well, you'll have to wait for the pirates then.
Just keep trying. I let the spikes do their thing (get close to the spikes), then simply walked out.

A prety good weapon, which is available early in the demo is the pirate's sable (strength 20, damage 30, price: 500). The beauty is its low strength requirement. Anything that makes more damage, requires a lot more strength (e.g. paladin's double sword (?, my german skills are not good) is damage 40 and strength 40).

In demo I found this sable at the 1st merchant on the road to Khorinos. However I saw it on sale only once, then it never appeared again.

Weak characters can get more strength from Innos or a teacher in Khorinos, and venture into the secret part of the demo and get the ring of strength(+5) in the area of the other entrence to Khorinos.
