One way to adjust difficulty in gothic 1 and 2 is to either play it slow and try to kill as many mobs(and level up) as possible before bringing the story onwards or do it as fast as possible. Perhaps I went on the quests too fast in my eagerness to see the new world and meet everyone.
Because Im in the miney walley of old world and im being smashed around.. I found out that travelling by the river gets me past orcs, at least as long as I swim under the water. But I cant find any way into the castle...
Im lvl 4-5 or smth btw. Could someone possible gimme some maps(in english preferably) and tips on what I should do.. Also Id like to know what levels u guys were when u did this..

I was Level 12 before I got to the Valley of the mines.

To get into the castle look for a battering ram against the walls of the castle, simply run up the huge log.
