Are you smoking crack? All i did was hit the esc key, then selected options and there you have the menu and fps both showing, is that too tough for you? Come-on at least try it before you start saying i faked the pic.

The screenshot i left you, is from my gaming rig:
P4 1.8@2.0
Geforce3
512mb RDRAM

I'm not sure what's wrong with your rig/config but mine seems to run fine-as shown by the pic. Perhaps you have too many wasteful background services running(2000 or XP)?

On a side note, i have no doubt at all they will release a patch that increases the framerates, just hate to see what they have to reduce to achieve it-(would be a shame to lose anything from this great game)

Interesting FindingS

For all of you that are having difficulties:
I bought morrowind the first day it came out and installed it immediately. My system is as follows:
Athlon 1.0c Ghz
Geforce 3 Original
Onboard Sound Card
ECD K7VZA Motherboard
Burner
Slot Loading DVD drive
21" Sony Trinotron Monitor
256MB PC133 SDRAM

When I first tried to play the game, the framerates were terrible, especially when any NPC's were in view. However, I noticed that when I moved the Res down to 640x480, things weren't helped at all. I concluded that there must be some other issue. Well, I ordered an ASUS MB, some DDR Ram and some other crazy good stuff, but it's still sitting on my bed, and I'm now getting framerates of above 80 indoors and 40-70 outdoors in 1600x1200 resolution. Based on what I've read here, It seems as if a lot of people will not believe this claim. It's amazing to myself really. I always run my desktop resolution at 1600x1200 but never tried morrowind at that resolution since I thought it wouldn't have a chance. MAN WAS I WRONG. It runs like a dream. ps I run Windows XP. I really didn't do anything else that I can think of that would have had an effect. Good luck everyone, if you have any questions, just post 'em. ~Matthias

Revision of Framerates

My original FPS estimates were guesstimates it turns out and I enabled fps to see the actual numbers. I'm getting like 25-35 in towns and 70-90 indoors. Everywhere else outside is like 40's. Draw distance 1/2. Shadows off. ~Matthias

My experience

I was getting ok framerates and the game was playable for me at 1024x768 2xAA turned on. Well, I decided to turn off AA and crank up the reso to see what happened... 1600x1200 ran like melted butter and looked oh so good! Couldn't read the text to well so I moved it back to 1280x1024 and cranked up the shadows to near full and the view distance to near full and it's running sweet now.

I do have the no-safedisk patch and I've also switched my shadows from linear to quad in the .ini file.

System specs
AMD 1.33
512 PC2100 DDR Ram
Geforce 3 ti 200 64 MB
Gamesound Fortissimo II

I can't believe it, but I'm more excited to play this game now then I was before release... after every session it seems to get better.

I'd like to add

Just like to add that I was experiencing alot of crashes to desktop my first night of playing until I finally figured out that my computer was overheating! I opened up my case and put a little fan right onto my mobo and I've played 15+ hours since without a single crash or bug.

Who says it's not bug-free... this game is as bug free as they come folks.

You call constantly falling through the floor, getting stuck on scenery, lots of exploits, and non stop sound problems bug free? Thats interesting.

My system is not overheating either, I have a temp monitor and it doesnt get any higher playing Morrowind than it does when playing other games, and they dont crash to the desktop anywhere near as much as Morrowind does. In fact the only one that does at all is Gothic, and that didnt do it anywhere near as much.

Holy smokes you need to fix your system dude.

Falling through the floor, where?
Getting stuck? did happen to me once, wiggled free no problem.
Exploits? Your saying the game exploits you? get real! There can only be an exploit that effects you in a single player game, IF you can't control yourself enough to avoid using it. Saying the game exploits are effecting you is sad...really sad.
Non-stop sound problems? check your system, I've played 30+hours with ZERO sound problems...

erm, no I did not say the game was exploiting me. I said it had exploits. And I did not say that I used them. But to me an exploit is a bug, so I mentioned it. If you are trying to tell me that I cant tell people the bugs I have found because it is something you have to do deliberately to make it happen then you are very strange indeed. A bug is a bug.

Falling through the floor happens mostly in interiors. Happened to be about 5 or six times so far. I jump everywhere to get my acrobatics up and this seems to be the cause. It happened once to me outside when I was walking along one of the Vivec buildings. How on earth can this have ANYTHING to do with my system? This is quite obviously a programming fault.

There is no need to check my system for the sounds problems, I am HIGHLY experienced in tweaking PC systems and my system is always in top notch condition. Now I do not have a "Killer Gaming Rig" but I have heard many other people talk about the sound problems I experience, so its not just my system. I have all the latest drivers, the system is tweaked to death, and no other games show any of these problems (I have WELL over 100 PC Games).

So just because you are not experiencing these problems yourself there is no need to flame me for having them. You are an ignorant fool and we dont need people like you on these boards. Try and say something constructive if you are going to give critiscism, and dont be a dickhead.

Ahhh i see... It's better to Exaggerate and be a nit-picky whiner on these boards than someone who questions your exaggerations and stories. Hmm... I'll keep that in mind.

""I cant tell people the bugs I have found because it is something you have to do deliberately to make it happen""

I wonder if using a crowbar on an ATM is an exploit you should report to the police. That's a deliberate action that causes something to happen?

Sounds like the ATM machine is faulty and has bugs/exploits.

One thing i find interesting is your roleplaying a character that jumps/hops everywhere you go? Guess that's one style of play the game designers didn't think about....either that or they laughed about it when someone mentioned it. (i wish this was multi-player i'd laugh so hard watching you hop past me-*there goes peter rabbit*)

My problem with your post is your talking about problems your having like they are effecting everyone which is not true at all. So again i say, perhaps your system needs to be looked at by a qualified repair center.
