NCsoft Profits Plummet @ Next Gen |
|
Next Gen has some numbers from NCsoft's latest financial results:
Net sales for the quarter came in at $83 million, up 5% from a year prior. By region, sales in Korea and Japan rose slightly, but were halved in North America and Europe. The native Korean market is still NCsoft's prime sector, capturing 63%, with North America a distant second at 15% Japan at 10% and Europe at 5%. The company added that overseas royalties accounted for 7% of total sales.

NCsoft blamed declining sales of City of Heroes and City of Villains for the low results, as well as lagging Guild Wars sales as gamers "anticipated [the] launch of Guild Wars Factions." Specifically, City of Villains and City of Heroes' sales plummeted by 58%, and Guild Wars' by 57%.

NCsoft also pointed to the lack of new releases as the culprit for the unfavorable year-over-year comparison. Guild Wars Factions missed the company's Q1 by about a month, as that game launched on April 28, and Auto Assault on April 13. The company expects sales to grow in the second quarter thanks to these new releases.
|

So the way EA churns out PC games, Microsoft churns out console games, the new plan is to churn out MMOGs?

I don't see any mention of a new plan. |

this is the problem with quarterly results. they make artificial deadlines.
by this report it seems like the company is in turmoil and next quarter they are going to look like turnaround artists.
the "market" is smart though and they look at daily reports when they are interested in a company. however, media likes to report what a quarterly report does to a company's stock and give out baffling numbers that often contradict the report itself in order to make something more sensational.
its a good question. so after Auto Assault what else do they have in the works? City of Heroes seems to have flown away on them then dropped in a terrific crashe.
