Gothic 2: Blue Screens of death and Windows protection error

Today i bought Gothic 2. Was 10$. I didnt expect much of this game for 10$. But what i didnt expect was it to destroy my computer ... twice.

After i installed the game and tryed to run the game it would do that loading screen and the lil thing would load and load and load .... but nothing would happen. In the taskmonitor it said "not responding." So after about the 3rd time of uninstalling and reinstalling and makeing sure i had all the right drivers and updates and all that jazz I decided i would just let it "run" even though it said it was unresponsive. When i did that it acualy would do something ... destroy my computer! It would give me that Windows blue screen (of death) and give me a bunch of hexdecimal crap (basicly telling me something wrong with the memory) not once, but twice. After Exiting the Blue screen (of death) The computer would then run for a bit. Then crash, hard lock up forceing a reboot. Apon Rebooting the computer I got the dreaded "windows protection error. Restart your system". There is no fix for this you have to format and reinstall your system.

After i did this. Reformating and reinstalling eveything (about a 2-3 hour endevor) I tryed the game again. Samething happend. Only thing dif form each time was the DirectX number. The frist time it was 9.xx the second time it was 8.xx. Obviusly this is a big deal. Hard crashing and forced Format and reinstall of an entire OS is a MAJOR bug. And this game should of never been released to anyone. Not even for 10$. Not even for a .01 Cent!

Here is my specs:

Well, I admit when im wrong.

It's not the game. It is infact a problem with the nvida drivers, the newest oens.61.76_win9x_english Are the ones i was useing.

They cause the Blue screen (of death). And the fix is to remove them and use later versions.

This might be important to place in a FAQ.

Oh almost forgot. Do this if you can't Get back in to windows after the Blue screen of death. If it dosent work you need to reformat/reinstall. (this is for win98se)

quote:
If you still can't get back in windows, try this... hold F8 while the system boots up, when the boot menu comes up, select "Command Prompt". Then, at the command prompt type: scanreg /restore (Editor: and restart)

Welcome to the forums!

Itīs generally speaking at least unnecessary to go for the latest driver for an older card. Development on the GeForce3 Ti part of this big driver collection stopped years ago.
I would prefer to find a driver which works perfectly and then stick to it.
