Saddam captured?

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/12/14/sprj.irq.main/index.html

What do you think? Is it the real Saddam or a double?

Real. They've matched his DNA against Uday and Qusay (killed earlier in the war).

They've just had the news conference, in typical American style. Video of a doctor taking a mouth swab for DNA testing, pictures before and after being shaved, and a comparison to pre-capture footage. Lots of celebrations in the streets in Iraq.

Now, the next question is what will happen to him? My guess is that they'll hand him over to the UN, he'll be tried for "crimes against humanity", and imprisoned at the Hague (if found guilty).

*eyes just about pop out of head!*
I just got up and hadn’t turned on the news yet. And now I have just danced a little jig! (literally - I think, I don’t actually know what a jig looks like but I danced anyway.)
Hopefully this will drastically reduce the number of guerrilla attacks. And as far as do I think it is real... Absolutely! Imagine the fallout if it was staged and anyone found out.

And they are now saying that he is going to be tried in an Iraqi court.

Teach me that jig, Roach. In fact, I think this merits a special guest appearance by Percy.

Even as an American who is cynical of his country, I find this remark particularly insulting, not to mention untrue. Sadaam is going to be tried by Iraqis, did you not hear (or read)?

Then you don't get me.
Can you tell the location of the other high members of Sadams goverment?
Probably somewhere in Bagdat, the US hides them until the trial and the interrigating them. The same will happen to Sadam

I never agreed with this war, but since the U.S. started it, I think they should be able to do those things. Besides, the British and U.N. troops have access to Sadaam and his buds, too.

But strangely, the people here(Jordan) are having a lot of arguments with Iraqians. The Iraqians are celebrating, and the Jordanians are very angry.

Good. Very, very good. I'm truely happy for the Iraqis and our troops that caught him.

@Xerox: Of course we're not advertising their location. That would be really stupid and an open invite for a jail break.

Now that would be some sweet justice.

I know, but MageofFire did not understand this:
Sadam hides from the US,
the US catches Sadam
the US hides Sadam from the world.

But it is true

Well, that's not confirmed yet. The Iraqi Interim Governing Council is asking to deal with him, but the Americans haven't announced their intentions. I fear America intends to deal with him personally.

I'm personally sickened by the words of a number of US senators who have stated that where Saddam is tried should depend on where he can be given the death penalty.

I'm afraid to say I really don't think he can be given a fair trial in either Iraq or America.

I'm relieved that we captured him. In my opinion, the only reason the American people got behind this war in the first place was that the Bush Administration was able to paint him as Evil Incarnate. Not that he isn't a bad man, but to demonize him now, when we aided and abetted him in the 80's, is a tad hypocritical.

On another note, I'll be angry if the Iraqis don't get to try him. I read from the Hotmail news service that the U.S. was "debating" whether or not to turn him over to the Iraqis. He was their dictator, and just because we went in and conquered their country doesn't, in my opinion, give us the right to try their leaders, no matter how nefarious they truly are. I would like to see him tried either by an Iraqi court free of US influence, or brought before the Hague for crimes against humanity.
