After character changed his job, his old skills will be closed. Can we continue increasing the skill point even when the skill is closed?
Thanks for your replies.

Ms. Val -

So then what about, say, a Rogue that makes a career change to Bard? Does that mean "pickpocket" and locks & traps" skills (and others?) that the two classes share would be frozen?

I ask because I'm considering doing just that - making a Rogue and converting her over to a Bard after 5th level or so, intentionally pumping up the two aforementioned skills so she'd have a little something to work with in those areas while I spent her next batch of points on Music and such.

All shared skills can still be increased. Since a bard also has pickpocketing and locks and traps, you can still increase those. However, the bard doesn't have stealth, so once you switch over that skill will be locked and can no longer be increased. Hope this helps.

See this discussion about changing characters "job".

Most of us think that it is not useful and that it is good only for those who are interesting in what it will do when they do it.
You need to max. your characters abilities as soon as it is possible to unlocke special abilities and then encrease this special abilities.

However it can be good as interesting experiment.

Val -

Help? It does indeed, Dear Lady. I thank you. [doffs hat, performs sweeping bow] <- Couldn't find an icon for that one in the site FAQ.

As for the stealth skill situation, no biggie. [shrugs] That's what the Chameleon spell is for, right?

Oh, and Danicek - The whole reason behind my Rogue-to-Bard idea isn't for "power gaming" purposes, but rather patch related. My new copy of Wizardry 8 says v 1.2.4, and I've read a number of other posts that say after this patch, the pickpocketing skill went to hell in a handbasket and that it just isn't worth wasting the points on. So I thought I'd go this route and, if what others are saying is true, I won't have wasted tons of time and points finding out the hard way.

Have you or Val (or anyone else?) noticed this aledged problem with pickpocketing, perchance?

Yes, the pickpocketing ability was nerfed, because it was easily expliotable. You could pickpocket an NPC all day and they wouldn't notice, well at least some of them. In the patched version NPCs notice when their stuff disappears over a period of time and associate it with you.
You're welcome

Ok Ok, I know you have your reasons, I just summarized results of our discussion for you - just for information .

So in other words... Even if you only hit said NPC for one or two items every 24 hours (3 camps) or so, the computer will track each and every grab and after 'X' number of items have been stolen, you're busted no matter what?

I'm not too sure. I never played with that patch installed. But from what I have heard, that is what happens. Besides in real life wouldn't that happen?

Well, I guess that would depend on the short- and/or long-term memory synapses of the merchant in question and of the local authorities.

Val-

Fab Four? As in the old Marvel super heroes? Funny, you don't *look* invisible.

Actually, the Fab Four is in reference to some characters in the game Gothic (Great game BTW). Check this thread here for the details.
