I'll really be dating myself with this answer.....

Wizardry (the original one that had to be played from diskettes)
Daggerfall
Civ 2
MOO 2
SMAX

That's probably the top 5, as measured by them either still being on my computer, or would be if my system still supported them.

FWIW, I don't think Gothic will stick around with them, and I haven't played Morrowind yet -- but from what I've heard, I'm unlikely to enjoy Morrowind as much as Daggerfall.

Dating yourself? Me too.

I submitted a list on a different thread and the only recent game was Deus Ex and that didnt crack the top 5.

Top games are really personal but here are the top 4 of my top 10 list.

1. Tie - Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss
1. Tie - Starflight
3. Ultima Underworld 2: Labyrinth Of Worlds
4. Wasteland

Hmmm... 100% disagreement. Not surprising when naming four games though.
Well, these are among my top games:

UW 1 & 2, Deus Ex, Thief & System Shock series.
Planscape Torment
Paradroid, the Sentinel and Beyond the Forbidden Forest on C64

If pressed, I could name my absolute favourite as one of the UWs, Deus Ex or the original System Shock, but I'd probably have a seizure if I tried to narrow it down any more than that.

Disagree

My vote for best game ever would go to Tank Battle on the old Intellivision console......

But seriously, folks...

I would vote for Fallout 2........the end.

Im still playing it after all this time and well......if youve got the game, you know what I mean, if you haven't got it, then you are missing out...its on budget so go get it.

Regards,

Hexmaster

Hey, would all of you like to nominate your favourute RPGs for the upcoming poll? Just click the link in my sig. Forgive my shameless spamming... but it was actually this thread that made me think it would be a good idea to run the poll. Rather than asking about a few games at a time, why not get a representative view of everyone on the forum?

First, lay off the caffiene.
Second, lay off the capitals.
Third, have you tried Baldur's Gate 2, Arcanum, NWN or Icewind Dale?

He means isometric 3rd person, i.e. top-down view.

...plus, Morrowind's third person view was a real eyesore IMO (terrible animation) just like Gothic's first person view (look Ma, no hands!), while MW was really fine in first person, just like Gothic in its third person view.

My favorites of all more-or-less RPG-like computer games are

-ShadowCaster
-the Lands of Lore games
-CyberMage
-the System Shock games
-Daggerfall
-the Thief games
-Deus Ex
-the Gothic games
-and the only isometric game that makes my list: Jagged Alliance 2.

Right, PS:T had its merits as well, but JA 2 managed to impress me a tad more, perhaps because it wasn't Fantasy.
