Questions on Character Creation: Rogue

I've never played a Rogue as a main character, and I thought I'd dare myself to try it with NWN.

However, I'm very disappointed that you don't get experience points for picking locks and disarming traps, like you do in Baldur's Gate, BGII, Icewindale, etc. This seems like a real disincentive to try as a rogue.

Also, I'm stymied on race. Halfling seems the most obvious, but Elf seems great for a rogue, too. On the other hand, Human seems awfully versatile and gets all those extra skill points.

Anyone have any advice in this area?

Well, not getting XP for opening locks and disarming traps actually IS kind of disapointing. But you get enough XP to get by anyways. And playing as a rogue is still different than playing as a fighter class. You could always play your rogue more like an assassin type of character and concentrate on skills that are more combat and hiding based. I play my rogue with a barbarian henchman. I let him run to the fray, remaining hidden and slowly creeping towards the mage that keeps behind the front lines, go behind him and backstab him. It's very afficient, and lots of fun! Playing as a rogue, you'll get your levels quickly anyways, so you don'T have to worry about falling behind even if you don't get XP for picking locks

As for race, I'm kind of an old fashioned D&D man... My rogue is a halfling because they are simply better at hiding and moving silently, but all other races are perfectly viable for Rogue types. You just won't be able to move as silently.

I'm playing a Halfling Rogue/Ranger. Quite a good balance so far...
