NOTOR- exp-pts advice in chapter 3

Hi, ill give a brief outline of my character first.

ok, so im at lvl 13. I have 40 expts to make use of. I am currently 30%one handed, 30% crossbow, and my strength is 45 (plus strength belt +5 = 50). I'm a militia in chap 3 in NOTOR. Black Robes are utterly destroying me, not to mention simple lizards and lurkers. My weapon is a fine sword: strength req=50 and does i think 50 damage...

note: it take me around 10 minutes to defeat one orc, or equivalent. When i fight, i only cause minimal damage all of then time. And also, Robes kill me in 2-3 hits.

my question: were would you suggest i invest my 40 exp?

Thx ahead

Unfortunately, I think that the problem is that you're level 13 in Chapter 3. Seriously, I think you should have hit that level in Chapter 1 - and you need to get one of your skills up higher than that as well. I would focus on either melee or ranged, and work the assiciated skill up.

I'm usually 7-8 when I leave chapter 1, but he's right - you should be higher. Why? Because you should be done with the entire expansion part by now, meaning you should in fact be wielding Beliars' Claw and wearing the heavy bandit armor etc. Do the new NotR parts and quests, and you'll level up fast and also meet enemies you can beat.

Where to spend the 40LPs? Depends, if you want a heavy fighter type(and you seem to be going down that path), put more in strength. There is no real need to put more in 1H for now, as you'll (probably) be using a 2h later.

Yes, great advice. I too headed out into the wilds of chapter 3 with a too weak character and was pretty bummed until I realized that I could go to Jarkendar, which is a much more suitable difficulty level.

By the time you complete the add-on world, you have built up a pretty strong character and are ready for Chapter 3. I never had much use for the Claw, though. My regular swords seemed more dependable than waiting for that extra burst.

Aye, but you can improve it as you level up by going to altars(of Beliar). In the end, you get around 35-40% chance on the lightning thing which does immense damage as it doesn't take armor into consideration. It will zap an elite orc just as hard a rat. It can pretty much kill most foes with a few zaps. =)

Sure thing, if I remember well I was level 15 at end of chapter 1. and 25 or 26 before starting chapter 3 so at end of chapter 2. 2H is defintely the way to go, and I just discovere how it was to have the master level, it's a breathe!

To do xp fast, do teaming as much you can and hunt as crazy with that. There's a bunch of xp, to get very fast and a nice change from single fight. In fact team fight is muhc more fun. That teaming stuff is particularely true for chapter 2 (Diego) and NOTR chapter. And many many oportunities in chapter 4, which is almost more fun than chapter 2... if that's possible!

thx 4 the info, I done what was required, but now I have another problem...its big...here goes:

To do Jarkendar, I needed to join the water guild circle. so I needed to find out about the missing ppl. I done what was required. ie.

Get this, this is HILLARIOUS: after speaking with dexter, he wants to kill me, thats normal though. But instead of drawing his weapon and attacking me, he draws his weapon, runs to the top of his tower and jumps off!!! I allmost fell of my chair when I saw that!...but anyway...

I spoke with greg afterwards...bla bla bla... mention RAVEN...so on, then I get admitted to circle of water. I am told to get lares a replacement, so I get Baltram or Hakon (one of them anyway)...now Lares can take me to the other mages...but that never happens...lares is not replaced, and he doesnt take me to the other mages... I take myself to the mages, then I get quest to collect these parts from the stone circles...im told Lares can help me... so I go to lares (who is still in the port), but no conversation option is availiable..., ok no help from lares...

I go to get the pieces alone... got two of them, now I have to get the one which is at the same stone circle as the eye of innos...but it is surrounded by seekers... which even after lvling up, kill me easily!!..

I know my writing might be confusing, but i am in quite a mess here... anyone got any suggestions?? thx ahead

The stone circle you want is to the west of where the eye of innos is. Go north from akill's farm; a skeleton and a few others, not as bad a a bunch of seekers.

In the original game you can get some exp by having him escort you most of the way to where the Mercenaries are. In the expansion, I found that by the time he is willing to do so you have long since cleared that route.

In your position I'd seriously consider restarting and doing a lot more levelling up in the first chapter.

As for the heavy bandit armour, I think it's stats are 70 for both weapons and arrows protection. You can get the same protection from the minecrawler plate armour - but people won't attack you on sight when you wear it.

How you get the minecrawler armor that soon in the game?

Each time I got it it's a lot too late and it's just a weak useless armor. The only way I found to get it is going deep into mine area and somewhere where I get only at chapter 4. Then this armor is useless.

In NOTR too, you can use Lares very soon to lead you on the road and get the xp. But he leads you only to the tavern not the farm. Additionaly, I can't explain why but it seems to make disapear 2 or 3 wolf further in the road to the farm.

You should be able to get it in chapter 2. First you need to learn take minecrawler plates - you can get this from Grimbald up near the black troll. Then you need to kill enough minecrawlers to get the plates. Finally, in chapter 2 you need to reach Gestath who is in the Valley of mines area - behind enemy lines unfortunately. Speak to him and ask where he got his armour from. He will point you back towards Wolf. Go back to Wolf (using the teleport rune to the entrance of the valley ideally) and get him to make you a set.

Two notes - if you aren't tough enough to fight your way past all of the orcs, you can often outrun them - just keep swerving left and right as you run and they won't hit you. Eventually they will give up. Also, the minecrawler armour is better with NOTR installed - normally it only offer weapons protection of 55 and arrow protection of 50. With the expansion, each has a protection of 70.

Omg the guy is already there since chapter 2? Well going there is strong luck or know he is here, he he that's difficult to not know when you replay!

The more funny is that this certainly means that you can get this armor even during chapter 1.

I don't advise anyboy doing that, there could be some bugs behind but obviously the designers of the game let a passage into the mines open, not easy but open. I tried it as a mercenary. But I didn't go far there but trigger the dragon attack during chapter 1. I was playing mercenary for first time (after mage first play) so I can't say for sure. I got one strange thing with Torloff, trigger a dialog about dragons attack and he say me to speak with Lee. But that didn't go further I had wait more before talk to lee about that.

Also the respawn seems strange but the respawn in NOTR is quite complex and not just linked to chapter change, so I'm sure of nothing.

I dunno if I'll resist get there during chapter 1 with my current play.

Hay the minecrawler thing didn't worked. I mean during chapter 1. The guy was there, he talk to me about the armor and wolf. He even learn me how get the plates.

But when I get back to Wolf he hadn't any option in his dialog.

Perhaps I need first learn take plates and retrieve some before to talk to Gestath or before to talk to Wolf.

I reload a previous game and will try first to learn get plates and take them, not easy with the crapy dex sword I am using!

I didn't know there was a way into the mines in chapter 1. Is it just some kind of jumping trick? As you say, the armour might not be possible to obtain in chapter 1. It's a bit too strong for that part of the game so it might not be scripted in at that point.
