Gothic 2: English version delayed.

Hi everyone, and thanks Gorath on the game delayed news. I am not disappointed about the news, since there will be another two great CRPGs come out this month (both already gone gold!, so they will arrive very soon).

However i'm curious on why it delayed: marketing strategy (avoid MW Expansion & Arx Fatalis)? or voice acting/recording for english version still unfinish?, or something else?

I don't have any inside information but bugs doesn't make sense to me. I'm sure there are some bugs (everything does) but I can't see them deliberately releasing the german version "on time" if the code was so bad.

I would think it more likely they need more time to finish the english localisation and, if realising they weren't going to make Christmas, they might as well take the time to better coordinate and market the international release through their distributors.

But this is only speculation.

That means Gothic won't be the game of the year, it will be the game of next year.

Marketing strategy, distributor right in North American market can also have alot to do with it. My latest data shows for USA:

Ebgames.com 2-14-2003

Amazon.com 1-25-2003

Gamestop.com 1-31-2003

It may, may come out in UK first since it is in the European Market area, and I would be sure it is the same game (English language) as USA except for the box cover - which is why I speak of marketers and distributors. They can be very brutal on how to maximize profit.

That is my working theory.

Well, I am playing through again and trying to make a MOD for extra quests.

I am translating the German manual for the Player Kit and Gothic Mod Development kit that was released in German a few months ago. The Mods will work with any patched version. It is interesting. It would be nice to have Mods in the section in addition to the tutorials; which I find very helpful.

Respawns some of the monster and game animals, cut out the easy money from the swords, make the lockpicks harder, tweak stats, more quest to round it out. Maybe use one of the lesser used armors for a newbie great armor for chapter 1 to 2, etc.

Biggest one is make respawning (once in a while) guys from rival Camps walking in hostile to simulate the fighting between camps...cool huh?

sorry folks, but the delay is no rews really and no delay per se. JoWood & Piranha Bytes always said, that the German version will hit stores in late november. Besides, you can rejoice, because afte my Arx Fatalis experience, which was released to the German market way to early and buggy as hell, you can expect quite bugfree games from JoWood as long as English version take 2 or 3 month longer to get ready!

But, but. Anyone good at learning German?

Or maybe I'll hire a translator so that he can translate every sentance for me.

I think it's worth of waiting, when you are waiting for something good

Itīs better if they release it after christmas, that way you wonīt have to feel bad about skipping the family for playing Gothic 2/skipping Gothic 2 for spending time with the family.

But I wan't to have it as early as possible! But maybe not... But if the patches are like some patches, the game will only get worse.

I could wait like a month more, but 3 months!! That's to much for me...

More time to play other games then.
Just play some completely other games (that don't look or feel the same as gothic) and you won't think as much about it.
Except when you visit this site every day. But who can live without it.

They probably still have to translate it and do all of the non-German voice acting. Blech, the date could be pushed back even further. December is not a month at all, in January many people will be on vacation, and only in February production will crawl up to normal levels. So... April or May? Gentlemen, place your bets please.
