| Gothic restarts the computer |
|
Well,I have recently(2 days ago) bught a Ati Radeon 7000 and ran Gothic(installed that day, after the card was installed).It ran the main menu,I wanted to start a new game,I saw the movie and then the game restarted,after it finished loading.I' currently installing the patch. I hope it works.If it doesn't i'll be kiked out of the forum for foul language. |

The #@&$% didn't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm going to curs it even more.Thanks for the welcome, and hope you can help me. In the mean time I'm going to try diffrent settings and ask the same question on diffrent forums. Hope I find a cure for it. |

WELL, i INSTALLED THE 1,08K PATCH, FROM THEGALLERY HERE AT RPG DOT and the game started normaly,but I still couldn't play. |

O.k Abzygall,
Try this, remove the patch, run the install gothic menu and choose "repair"
Check latest motherboard drivers, and re-check for latest graphics driver.
Does hard drive light stay on?
What is your opperating system?
What version directX
Did you hear sound in the intro movie?
Does your DirectX diag' run all Graphics tests?
Can you run a video in windows media player on full screen (no lagging)?

Ok. I'll try what you suggested,thanks for the help, as for the rest of the test I ran dxdiag and all the tests for Direst 3D and Direct Draw and they worked; I have Win XP; DirectX 9.0c; I can run a movie in fullscreen, if that's what you mean; yes I hear the sound in the intro and yes my hard drive light stays on.

Welcome to our forum! 
Gothic doesnīt restart your computer. The game crashes and windows automatically restarts itself. If you disable the automatic restart you can read the error message.
Gothic should also save an error log file in its directory.
Did you use the forum search to find out if itīs a graphics card related problem? The Radeon 7000 was both problematic and slow when it came out years ago.

Control panel/system properties/advanced/startup and recovery/sytem failure - uncheck automatic restart.

Well I viewed the error, and it said:

That's exactly what it said and I figured out that it's something from "ati3dvag.all" . What that is I don't know  . Please Help!!!

I would suggest you get another graphics card, you can get hold of much better cards and cheap.
The 7000 is a problematic card for many users, not just gothic players.
As a last chance suggestion, maybe try ajusting your settings using "Smartgart" - search for the download if you don't allready have it.

Well, I talked to the guys at the shop where I bought the card, and they said that I should reinstall Windows, so I'm going to try that, and it will hopefully work

I reinstalled windows xp from scratch and nothing changed except for the overall performance. I'm going to go to the service once more and see what I can do!

You're still trying Abzygall? - i admire your determination.
Maybe, if all else fails you try this, it could give us one last clue. Download and install the Player kit.(1.08k)

Run the 'starter' from the blue "G" desktop icon, highlight "gothic the game" (1.08j/k) then press start gothic button...in some rare cases this gets the game run but i doubt it in your case, at least when the fault happens you will see an error message, what is the message?
