Well, if you changed your mind and can accept sci-fi, then Deus Ex is a great game. First person, and some mp. Graphics is kind of old though, as it is based on the first Unreal-engine from 1998. Still, a great game!

I detest 1st persons with Blades Like Morrowind I spend 45$ in it and I uninstall it because is so robotic. GOTHIC is the best for you to choose.

I think both Gothic and Morrowind are good choices, they are both great games with focus on different features. MW beats Gothic in graphics, but it can be really slow if you don't have a high-end computer.

Deus Ex is one of the best scifi-shooter/RPGs I've ever played. System Shock 1&2 are great too.

I really do like first person play....it seem more real (to me anyway). I'm kinda in the mood for fantasy but would handle some sci-fi I guess. Graphics are important.

Morrowind or Wizardry 8. Wiz8 has no-state-of-art graphics, but it is still nice, characters and monsters are animated perfectly, and it has one thing Morrowind doesn't - THE interface. If it's your first time RPG experience, you'll have to spend couple of hours on it, but it is soooooo good. Like no other up to date.

Given that I would rather smear my eyeballs with honey and wait for angry wasps to attack than play Morrowind again, I'd reccomend picking up Arx Fatalis when it's released (I believe Nov 8th is the current release date) and giving that a whirl.

I guess you are none too fond of Morrowind then?

Hrm....still a toughie. I love first person RPGs as well, and I also prefer fantasy or surrealism. But you're asking for a lot with the good graphics part of your statement. Daggerfall was fantastic, but it still didn't have great graphics.

We did some thinking in another thread about first person games. In particular, we were looking for turn-based combat, but even without that stipulation, it was pretty slim pickings.

If you have a powerful PC, Morrowind is beautiful and there's lots to do.

If not, then I'd go with Wiz8. The graphics aren't quite as pretty, but the gameplay is exceptional. It sucks you in and refuses to let go.

Other options (all older games that take significant steps backward on graphics) are the Might and Magic series (avoid the most recent, MM9, like the plague- 6 and 7 are the best) and Wizards & Warriors.

And Wizardry 8 - not so new, but very very good RPG with good enough graphics, 1st person view and combined fantasy setting.

He did say multiplayer capabilities.

Of course he said it, but there is now game with "all" he wants.

AC2 is now officially online!
- inventory can be switched to gold automatically, no running to town to sell
- crafting is done out of materials you find, and crafting doesnt take skill points that can be used for fighting skills. The more you craft, the better you get
- "non-traditional" rpg characters and creatures
Havent read a bad review yet! Well, I guess there was like 2, from players that sounded like they just hate MMORPGS in general. I can understand their disenchantment, but it doesnt sound at all like DAoC(which I burned out on)But like 15 other player/gamesite reviews have been good. If'n you want to try massive multi, you might want to try Ac2, i think Im gonna.

And it is possible to play it only if you live in 9 countries. Hmm... They will not sell it in other countries and if you will buy it via internet, they will not let you in online gaming because they will not let you to pay monthly payments.
So you need account in one of those 9 contries. Still there is matter of IPs...

6) Multiplayer capabilities

Any ideas?

I would recommend Wizardry 8 & Morrowind. Morrowind is more of a gaming operating system. Once you learn how to use the supplied TES Construction Set (CS), you will be limited only by your imagination to create new games. For e.g. it is possible to recreate the entire Wizardry 8 game using the TES:CS. So investing your money in Morrowind will reward you back for a long time.

Gothic 1& 2 is also good but it is very difficult to create user mods for both of them. They both don't have an officially supported mod development kit . But remember one thing, however 3rd person 3D views may look they won't give you the immersion. Eventually you will get bored with the 3rd person view. So you choose.

And for your info: if you are thinking of buying a new budget PC to play the latest games, you can assemble a decent one at US$250. AMD Duron 1 GHz, 256MB PC2100 DDR266, Jetway V266B (VIA KT266A), ATA133, USB2.0, 20GB Hard disk, 64 MB Geforce 2 MX400 AGP 4X, 50X CDROM, 1.44MB Floppy, integrated AC'97 3D CODEC Audio, integrated 56Kbps V.90 modem, ATX case, keyboard, mouse, NO MONITOR. The total came to US$250!
