Windows wont recognize the exe file

Having just installed Gothic on my computer I cannot get it to start. Windows gives me an error message saying that it cannot find the file gothic.exe when I directly click on the file gothic.exe. This is confusing to me because the computer does recognize that the file is there, but seems to forget whenever I try to run the application. If anyone has any idea why such an error would occur or how to fix it I would appreciate the help.

(running windows XP)

This sounds like a very difficult problem to trouble shoot. But to me it sounds like you either have a corrupted installation, damaged hard disk or messed up Windows XP config.
