I've just returned to Arx 'cuz when I last played it I didn't get very far. Now I'm stuck at exactly the same place. I've just finished the 'tutorial' bit and having seen off the goblin jailer I go up the stairs. There is a room on my right with two goblins in. I had to resort to the walkthrough [at this early stage!!!!!] which says that they talk about a dirty plate. Well the problem is my two don't. One tells a joke about grey goblins and then thats it. Nothing. Zip.
Do I have to hang around before they talk about the washing up and if so how long? Do I have to sneak into the room? I tried with the dirty plate but couldn't ake the table, where the walkthrough says I'm to place it, without been seen. If I try to fight them one always runs off and gets his mate. Three against one is a bit of a bugger this early in the game. I'm barely a level two ........ something!.
PleasePleasePleasePleasePleasePlease can some one help.

Try poking your head in enogh so at least one of them sees you and gives chase. Lead him around a corner while you got your weapon charging and let him have it. Do the rest of them like that. I think that's what I did. --- SJ

@Spyritfire. Welcome to the dot boards. This game is a little bit of a pain unless you use the walkthrough, but I tried to play without it as much as possible the first few times. The joke guys are just to be killed, and don't let one get away or he brings reinforcements. The part you are talking about with the dirty plate is father into that section of the prison. I never messed with that tactic. To me it was a waste of time for nothing. Just do as Scrib said and kill the first ones and then try and get them one at a time from there out. I strongly recommend the PDF myself, as the game lacks good ingame directions and you can mess up a quest if you do stuff wrong. One of the only major flaws it has. Save a lot in different slots for that reason. Have fun. I still found it great and had great replay as well.
