Anyone played it, too? I hope what i saw isn't representative for the final game. While there may be some tactical depth in it, the graphics are soooo dated, and somehow the "story" is, well, who cares

I deinstalled the game after 15 minutes. I don't do that often, because some games need some time to unfold and show the beauty they have - but I really think this on isn't mine. Not at all.

I was really looking forward to this game, but from what I played in the demo, I doubt it would be any good

I tried downloading the demo, but after 6 hours only 33% was downloaded, so I cancelled. Sorry to hear about the bad impressions, as I was looking forward to it. Havn't played a decent strategy game since Age of WOnders, and as Heroes 4 is delayed, I thought this may be good.

Haven't played it, but it doesn't sound like I will bother. I can probably live on the Gothic demo for the next year at the rate I am playing computer games!!!

PS Azareal, your title is misspelled.

I played and finished the demo, and had a go at the skirmish mode.

I think it is an improvement over Magic and Mayhem...but frankly I'd rather play Lords of Chaos (a predecessor of sorts) again. I'm fiddling around with emulators at the moment to achieve that goal.

The AoM demo didn't really inspire me... I found the graphics decent enough, but it was short, and felt in some ways a bit too much like a standard RTS. Winning levels by using the same 2 or 3 spells/creatures repeatedly can be a little dispiriting...but there wasn't much incentive to change tactics. And as Rendelius mentioned, the plot didn't look like it was particularly significant.

I hope I'm wrong, and that there is more to the game. I'll keep an eye on the reviews. I think Etherlords might be more my thing, though.

Never played Lords of Chaos, but Chaos was one of my all time favs. Many years ago, we were all hooked on it, and made the Spectrum thr computer of choice. I heard that this was form the same guys, thats why I was interested.

Is Lords of Chaos a kind of sequel to Chaos?

Wasn't Lords of Chaos some kind of turn based summoning rpg? Is my memory deceiving me?

Yes, Lords of Chaos was a sequel to Chaos, and it was a turn-based summoning RPG.

Instead of the staightforward duelling and random spell selection (which I think Chaos had, my memory is fuzzy too), in Lords of Chaos you picked which spells you learned, increased their power level, and adjusted your own statistics - which affected mana capacity, amount you could move per round, how good in hand-to-hand combat you were, magic resistance, etc - all by allocating experience points. These points were earned during the game for each enemy creature or wizard defeated, as well as how much treasure you managed to aquire and escape through the portal with. The portal itself only appears at the end for a handful of turns, which could make the end-game quite tense. The scenarios to duel in included a forest with several buildings, a dungeon, and a group of islands. Each scenario had weapons, chest and door keys, and ingredients scattered around.
(The ingredients were needed for potion spells and for summoning dragons)

But, although Art of Magic has some of all of this, I don't like it as much.

I just read the first review on PC ZOne's website. It was a respectable 80%, but the review did not sound especially enthuastic. Still,it could be interesting.
