| What movie do you think everyone should see at least once? |
|
So I'll try to build up a list of what to rent when I go rent a movie and never know what to pick..lol
I don't mean necessarily your all time favorite since that way I would be getting a movie around your fantasies, but just a remarkable movie that anyone should see

The Godfather
Again, as you said, not my fave (or even in my top 10) but perhaps objectively the greatest movie of all time.

La Vita Bella (Life is Beautiful), written, produced, and starring Roberto Benigni. It is a foreign film (portrayed in Italian, Benigni's native tongue), however, the fact that you must read the subtitles to follow along does nothing to take away from the film (there is a dubbed version available, however, it is far inferior to the original subbed release). The film recieved three Academy Awards, and endless hype at it's release (which many were deterred by), however, a single viewing has convinced all but the most heartless that any such "hype" was earned, and even deserved.
It is, to say the least, a poignant and touching film, and one that deserves acclaim. The sheer fact that there is no violence, foul language, or sex to be found within a film set in World War II, and starring characters interred in a Holocaust camp, speaks worlds for the depth of the film, one that manages to convey a true-to-life message of devotion and love with both humour and wit. |

The Bridge
Because Spielberg has obviously seen it before he made Saving Private Ryan.
Murnauīs Nosferatu
Because itīs the original vampire movie everybody else stole from. Of course the story is well known, but the shadow effects were groundbreaking back then. And the actors donīt talk that much . 
The original Ben Hur
Not the remake with Charlton Heston.
Because it kicks even more ass.
Once upon a time in the West
My favourite movie.
Because it was groundbreaking. Be aware that 8 out of 10 people canīt stand its slow pace and lack of action. Fonda, Robards, Bronson and Cardinale have never been better.
Touch of Evil
Because Orson Wells was a genius. Great cast, great movie (despite Charlton Heston ) and a rock 'n' roll sound track (!) by Henry Mancini.
One relatively new movie
Downfall (German with English subtitles)
Get the longer TV version if possible. The cinema version is also great, of course.

I love old films. I'll second Gorath's suggestion of Nosferatu. You might want to try Metropolis (1927) too.

I have to agree,..this is one of a kind
Great movie,...
I must've spent hours on battlefield and call of duty after watching that movie,...
...memories...I'm too nostalgic..lol...

And when everyone's done with all this serious, meaningful crap, how about something that's *gasp* entertaining? Perhaps "Sixteen Candles"? "Diehard"?
