Weapons/Hand to Hand does a thief/monk stand a chance?

I suffer from MCS (multiple Character Syndrome) and even though I've yet to get the game (release it in Europe allready for Christ's sake!) I've been dreaming away at severl MSG boards and making character sheets.

Now I've noticed some post that have mentioned that HTH isn't a viable option and that if you want to play a monk style char yer pretty much... well... something cencored

Among my charctersheets there's this one:
Name: Kha'Less
Race: Khajit
Birthsign: The Thief

PS:
Sneak
Acrobatics
Athletics
Blunt Weapon
Hand To Hand

SS:
ALchemy
Security
Unarmoured
Marksman
Speechcraft

I plan to play him as a type of monk/thief char. More monk than thief I guess, peacefull, only breaking in to help others instead for personal gain. Sneaking around, hiding rather then a frontal attack, using throwing knives to pick of oponents from afar and switching using a Bo type weapon (are there such staffs ingame?) in conjuction with HTH.

Viable? Doable? or will I end up thrusting to much on Blunt Weapon and leave my HTH option somewhere way way back?
Does it help he's a Khajit? Race description mentioned something about some Khajits prefering to use their claws rather then weapon?

Khajit get a bonus to hand to hand because of their race... that's where the 'some prefer to use their claws' comes in.

I stopped trying to play a hand to hand character after about an hour of beating away on things then switching to a staff and killing the same monster in two hits...

Neat concept, but the damage really needs to go up as your skill progresses to make it 'viable' in my opinion...
