Help needed - Morrowind crashes on startup

I hope someone can help me with my Morrowind problem.
Nine out of ten times during startup, Morrowind simply crashes on my system. Ctr-Alt-Del doesn't work to close the (not working program). Every once in a while it doesn't crash but instead gives the following messages :
Failed to create shader shaders\fauzEMBM_displace_2.pso
Unable to load pixelshader file : fauxEMBM_displace_2.pso
If i click ignore to these two messages, the game starts.
My system stats are : AMDAthlon 1800+, 512 MB , GeForce 3, Asus motherboard.
Anyone have any clue what is going on ?
Thanks for any help you can give.

That "pixel shader" stuff is related to GF3 & above video card's functionality, so logically when Morrowind startup menu appear, look inside the options, adjust the pixel shader either "off" or "on." Also, make sure the video adapter option is correct (corresponding to your GF3). If still not working, make sure your DirecX is working properly, and check your video driver (try update to newest version, or use 30.82, which so far is still the best driver for Nvidia cards (stability & performance for most games).
