This is really a dumb question |
|
Just bought Gothic. Looks like a cool game. Only don't laugh, but I can't figure out how to pick things up. I'm using a PC, keyboard and mouse. It says use Left Ctrl for action, but it doesn't do squat. Can someone help this little old lady? |

its Ctrl and then up arrow to take it. If I remember right. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Thanks for your quick response! That didn't work.
Maybe I'm thinking I'm supposed to pick things up when I'm not. Just started and what's his name is standing next to a torch. The word torch comes up. Should he be able to pick that up? And when he runs into a patch of blueberries, or those mealy bugs? I'm suspect he's supposed to do something.
I d/led the walkthrough, but it doesn't give basic info. Also, I went in and changed some of the keys to match other games I've played (i.e., changed Forward to W). That's more comfortable but I still couldn't make Action do much, except now he shrugs his shoulders.
Thanks so much for your help! |

I dont think he can take a torch (off a wall or on a stake), but ctrl and up arrow should work to pick things up. Try using ctrl + up on a chest or those blueberries you mentioned. Don't worry about not gettin the controls right away, i had to check the manual after 20 mintues of frustrated gaming. _________________ If soot stains your tunic, dye it black. This is vengeance.

here is the controls that i have found most easy to use
Forward - W
Backward - S
Turn Left - Q
Turn Right - E
sidestep left - A
sidestep right - D
use weapon - C
Jump - Spacebar
action key - F
Inventory - TAB
when you can see somethings name, hold down F and hit W. "Me" (his name) should bend down and pick whatever it is up. to open a chest, hold F and hit W. to take something hold F and hit D (10 at a time) or E (1 at a time)
does that cover what you need? _________________

Now that I think of it, my game didn't come with a manual. Is there an online one? And do I need to d/l a patch for this game? Thanks! |

Yes you need to install the patch, based on the version you have. Look in the gallery and you will find the link to the patch you need. There is a Gothic cheat guide FAQ that has tons of stuff in it. The Jeremy FAQ has controls in it. Look in special in the gallery list and then page 2. Both downloads are there. Hope this helps. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

believe me, you really dont need the manual. a manual came with the my copy, but it didnt help to much with inderstanding the controls, mostly just info on camps, ranks, and the story _________________

I might have missed something here, but have you tried using the left mouse button and up (mouse button first, hold it down and then press foward)? _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

Using the mouse button in combat works better for me than the control key does. _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

So many of the games I play use the mouse buttons. That'd probably be easier for me. I'll check it out.

i like using the keys because instead of just a forward swing, you can swing side-to-side, forward, or block with the same hand as the action key. (my settings are above). also most of the other important keys are also where my left hand can reach them without moving. makes for faster reactions during gameplay _________________
