Merry Fallout! Ho! Ho! Ho!

Christmas vacation trapped in a snowed-in cabin with grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, and other people I only see twice a year was made infinitely more tolerable due to one thing. Fallout 2. Instead of hearing about Uncle Bob's stock gains or cousin Marla's pain caused by her latest little terror (real names witheld), I was happily running around a post-apocalyptic world on my old laptop. Thank you God for this happy distraction! Finally! I had a Merry Christmas as I ran around roasting Enclave soldiers with a flamethrower instead of roasting chestnuts over an open fire! This game is awesome! :D

Glad you like it. Fortunately Christmas for us was only day with the relatives but I still would have payed good money to be able to sneak off and play FO on an old laptop.

Consider yourself lucky. I'm going to have to find more old, good, pc games that I can sneak in next year on my laptop. This little gem spared me a lot of eyes-glazing-over-mind-numbing conversations that I would have had to sit through this year.

With headphones plugged in and stategic Alt-TABing I can look like I'm doing something vastly more important than listening to someone ramble on. ;p

That is the advantage of a laptop. You can take it to places you can't take your desktop to. I'm happy you're enjoying FO2. Have you reached New Reno yet?

This strategy can also be successfully employed in desktop computers.

True, but it's hard to fit a desktop in a carry-on.

Oh yeah! New Reno is my kinda town! I dropped everything and did all of the made man missions.

You know me too well. BTW, is that last boxer supposed to bite your bloody ear off?! That surprised me a bit.

I thought that was a traditional boxing move.

Hey, remember that Holyfield vs Tyson fight where Tyson bite Holyfield's ear? It was a nod to that. You find stuff like that all throughout the game.

I've never lost an ear to the Masticator. Typically he dies in the first called shot to the head with my boxing gloves on. Punch. Whap. Floor. Bleed out animation.

Well, my character wasn't very well trained in hand-to-hand combat. I'll have to try the game again with a character that focuses on it so I can beat him. Or level up a lot more. *wink*

Hand to hand combat is always the most fun and the most frustrating thing about CRPGs. It looks cool and it sounds cool ... and then ...

When I want to have fun in Fallout 2, though, I tag small arms, unarmed, and then speech, doctor, or stealth. Depending if I want to talk then splatter... splatter then heal... or sneak then splatter.

Sneaky hand-to-hand sounds fun.

It's one of my preferred methods of gameplay. In Fallout it doesn't really work until you have stealth at 120% or more. At that point it's kind of funny, as you can hit 'sneak' in combat after moving your full distance and the enemies will often lose 'sight' of you and you can end combat.

This is deadly when combined with a scoped hunting rifle.

There are just too many fights in FO2 that end in a 'super-stim-slugfest'... endurance matchs where you're just knocking back super-stims to stay alive while trying to kill your hoarde of foes. It's not healthy for the stealth character ... since you have to kill things to get past a certain level. Still, it is fun.
