Let's take a break from Oblivion and head to the opposite end of the spectrum with a short Indie Roundup.

Abaddon - the site has been updated with lots of Flash-y new content showing off some new models and screens following the recent decision to change the theme by adding Wild West elements to the previous post-apoc schema.

Ashes - Two Worlds Collide has news they have added a musician to work on the score.

Flatspace II v1.0 was released a couple of weeks ago. Flatspace is an overhead space trader, somewhat like Escape Velocity: Nova.

Helherron - the site has news that a new version is underway with development now on Linux (Windows ports will occur). The resolution has been upped to 800x600 and you can find some brief comments from the artist in this thread at Octopus Overlords.

Tales of Trolls & Treasures - I overlooked this in previous roundups but quite a bit has been happening with this promising party-based cRPG. A new 0.76alpha version was released recently and can be grabbed here. Thanks, Smorri!
|

Great, this kind of short summary of indie titles is something worth doing. |

I've downgraded my opinion of Flatspace II to "don't bother". I regret the purchase. |

Interesting, I'm looking forward to Ashes: Two Worlds Collide.
It's funny how the russian preview of this game talks how the engine makes things look fairly psychedelic, even though it is not the engine but rather the effects added and the overall world design feeling (They use shaders like the cel shading effect, and they drew the trees and decided to render them in 3d through the engine which is possible).
It (Russian preview) also talks about the game having many different kinds of magic as well as a thieves guild. Pretty nice if you ask me. _________________ "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" -Edmund Burke. Mentioned in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. |

Yeah, Ashes does look pretty promising. They can take their time finishing it off as far as I'm concerned - I'm currently busy replaying Torment!
I'm not too sure about the wisdom of adding cowboys to Abbadon... Did this flash of genius come about halfway through Brokeback Mountain? |

Re. Flatspace II
It has no late game. If you don't want to fly a big, slow ship - a carrier or supertrader - then you can't really improve on the starting ships, so you have nothing to save up for. You visit the same stations, fight the same enemies, complete the same missions. After you spend the half-hour it takes to get your ship fully equipped you've seen everything the game has to offer. |

Now, Josh, you know you get your own coverage. I do this once a month or so just to wrap up the smaller titles we don't have in our database individually.
@HiddenX - thanks, I'll go through all of those as soon as I can. _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |

The "cel shading" isn't really cell shading, just an inking effect with self illuminating textures and we're currently testing some proper 3D trees... maybe some screens soon!
Have you got a link to the Russian preview? _________________ Dak’kon: "Your reasons for your incessant clicking are not *known* to me."

There you go (It is the same link from the Ashes website).
It doesn't say that it uses cel shading, I was just assuming that because it looked like cel shading effect to me, so I'm sorry if I'm wrong (Which I am, from what you're saying).
I was just reading the preview for the sake of seeing how they write previews in russian, because I'm used to english.
And yeah, I tried to compare between your(Are you the developer?) pictures and some other cel shaded game (wind waker) and they do seem somewhat different, although not too much.
And I'm into game development as well that is how I know about some of these things. _________________ "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" -Edmund Burke. Mentioned in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. |
