Each skill has an attribute that controls it. For instance, the "axe" skill is linked to strength. When you level up, the game uses a little formula to decide how many points it will give you to distribute in your attributes.

Here's the formula- every time a skill increases, you "get a credit" in the attribute linked to that skill. When you qualify for a new level (10 skill increases in major and minor skills), the game adds up your credits for each attribute. The more credits in an attribute, the better the increase (0 credits = 1 point increase, 1-4 credits = 2 point increase, 5-7 credits = 3 point increase, 8-9 credits = 4 point increase, 10 or more credits = 5 point increase). By training a misc skill up before you sleep to level, you can collect extra credits for an attribute you want to increase.

It's a little complicated, but you'll get it after playing for a while. You'll also find several threads here about "multipliers", which is what the above folmula is spitting out.

Hi Taxen,

I generally suggest not having multiple weapon or armour skills because I tried it myself and found it a waste of skill-slots. However, as Danicek says, you don't have to comply with these guidelines! If you've got an idea that involves multiple weapon types, or requires fast improving athletics, or includes a focus on hand-to-hand, go for it! There's very little that's *wrong* at character creation.

The one-Misc-per-Attribute thing I would try to keep to though. A common mistake I'd often make would be to take Light Armour, Sneak, Marksman and Block (all Agility) as Major or Minor. It's useful to have skills in Misc you can train to improve your bonuses, but if they're Major or Minor you end up buying points towards next level, which is very expensive and limits the bonus you get on the *next* level as well.

If you're taking lots of magical skills, make sure you don't take all the Willpower-controlled ones! That's another easy thing to do.

And yeah, gender can affect your starting Attributes - when confirming your character's settings try switching genders and see how they change.

Have fun!

Charlie.

PS. Word of warning: with the original unpatched release, training Misc skills didn't count towards level up bonuses. Patching is a good idea, for this reason and many others.

ok, thanks. i´ll don´t relly understand the "By training a misc skill up before you sleep to level, you can collect extra credits for an attribute you want to increase" thing. but as you said, i´ll think i get it later.

Dunmer, Aaqiel.
Custom Class
Stealth

Main Attributes: Willpower, Endurance.

Major Skills:
Security
Stealth
Destruction
Light Armor
Short Blade (lovin the jink)

Minor Skills:
Block
Athletics (gave me good speed until I got my boots)
Speechcraft
Mercantile
Resortation (mostly to be able to cast resist magic for my boots).

Very interesting character to play, very well rounded. I have a lot of options for how to handle most situations. I use destruction spells as my ranged weapon. I just love playing this thief (well, my current rank is bandit). And with the jinkblade I can hold my own in combat. I am loving the dark brotherhood armor I received from a dead man on a fool's errand.

No, it's not very good at all. Having a reasonable armour rating but not having to wear any armour is quite nice, but once you realise that you're missing out on a possible nine more constant-effect enchantments, the deal turns sour.

I'm not playing Morrowind much at the moment, but my current character uses only unarmored. I do have a plug-in that gives an additional effect to the unarmored skill -- it generates a 'dodge' bonus that is like a constant effect Sanctuary spell, so a character is harder to hit as the unarmored skill goes up.

Personally, I think it's working quite well. She may not be the most powerful character that one could make, but she's plenty powerful for winning the game, and undoubtedly the most powerful character in it.

It's also fun to play.

I can't remember much about my character build, but I do remember:
Race- High Elf (magicka)
Sign- Atronarch (magicka)
He had a mix of several different types of skills, all pretty much distributed equally between magic, combat, and stealth for stat potential. I powerlevelled him to level 70 in one day and became frustrated at his 0% chance to summon a Golden Saint with 123 intelligence (mentor's ring + some shrine
) and a level 100 conjuration skill. He had a combination of Imperial Steel/Silver/Chain armor and had an AC of about 60 with it on, health about 712, magicka about 450. All of his major or minor skills are maxed out except axe, which is at level 36 (don't like that skill). His weapon of choice is a Daedric Katana backed up by an Imperial Steel tower shield, and Golden Saints have been a joke to him since level 50. His stats became maxed out at level 55, and now I'm trying to get him some constant effect enchantments for endurance. I can't find any fortify stat spells though, so I'm slightly screwed over.

I've been playing Morrowind for about 2 weeks now, I'm running Indestructible's Armorer mod, Balor's Herbalism mod, the 3 master files, and the Abandonded Flat mod.

Strength

I have two working characters, one Breton, and one Nord.

Both have a natural strength of 1000 and a natural endurance of 1000.
Enchantments add 180-190 speed, 160 agility, Jump 15pts, and immunity to magic! Both guys are around level 150, sign the mage.

You can max out a misc. skill and still be just as effective as a Major skill. But my major and minors are Long Blade, Blunt weapon, Light and Heavy Armor, Axe, Speechcraft, Merchantile, Athletics, Acrobatics, Security.

Once I stick on the boot of blinding speed, blind has no effect when your immune to magic, I have no trouble getting anywhere. My jump enchantment of 15pts and my enormous strength allows me to jump right over mountains and kill an ordinator in one hit. !

I am curious to see if anyone has discovered this! A breton has 50% resist magic. Stick on the cursaiss of Saviors Hide (60% resist magic) and you will be immune to magic, atleast all magic which will decrease your stats! That means that you won't loss any strength or endurance gain by corpus disease.
Go to sleep for 3yrs waking up every 50days or so to restore your speed, intel, willpower, personality, with restore spells or potions. Then once you have 1000pts nature strength,(or 2,000 or 5,000) then go get cured. As long as you wear the Cursaiss of Saviors Hide you will keep your strength. Other races require additional enchantments of resist magic. No trouble with encumberance here!

I'm working on one character at the mo and he is turning out okay but i'm having doubts. What do you think?

Race:Imperial
Class:Jedi (don't ask)
Sign: The lady

Major skills: Long blade (big and intimidating)
Sneak (for critical hits)
Hand to Hand (I do karate myself)
Conjuration (for atronachs and bound weapons cos i luv em)
Medium Armor (Indoril and Bonemold)

Minor skills: Security (I find it essential)
Mysticism (to absorb fatigue which helps hth and trap souls)
Speechcraft (I like to be persuasive)
Enchant (to make my own magic items)
Athletics (to get around and out of trouble fast)

So far I'm a Mastermind in the Thieves guild started doing quests for the telvanni and got my character to lvl 23. The one problem is soul gems. I struggle getting good souls and good gems so then i end up never using mysticism and enchant (although it recharges my items quicker).
Anyway I like this character cos he's fast and fights amazingly well.

Other misc skills I'm planning to use are Heavy armor cos there are some good sets of it and alchemy cos I got a neat way to earn tons of gold with it.
I'm still working on him.
