Northchild RPG

Hi all,

I'm pleased to make available the first screenshot from the upcoming RPG Northchild. Northchild, a traditional RPG in the spirit of Final Fantasy, will be delivered to broadband users via. the web. It chronicles the story of Mina, a young woman who must leave the place where she grew up, and who makes friends during many adventures.

Northchild is due to be released in June 2004.

Thank you Dhruin! The outdoor backgrounds will be put together in a program called Vue - the only skill that is required there is compositing, my contribution will be somewhat limited by this. Indoor environments are going to have to be modeled and textured from scratch though. The cockatiel "sidekick" character was modeled in 3ds and is a bit more involved, but it should come out looking like it's moving in and out of 3D space like the way that the characters in FF7 are polygonal against pre-rendered backgrounds. Artistically, it's not going to be great stuff, and the 3D animation will have to be kept to a minimum due to bandwidth concerns. But... given the budget, graphics/music/programming team (me), and deadline, it'll hopefully be a good portfolio piece and good short free online game. Looking forward to providing updates about the stats, obstacles, story, etc.

It looks great. My hat is off to anyone with the talent to do stuff like this. Good luck.
