| Ald'ruhn thieves' guild quest |
|
I was given the first quest by this thieves' guild: to sneak into the mage guild and steal an enchanted tanto. I killed the mage guarding the guild (ouch! I belong to the guild!) and looked all over but I can't find the tanto. There is one chest of drawers that is locked at 100 skill and I get the message that the lock is too complex. Does anyone know if the tanto is in that chest, or did I miss it elsewhere?

Not in the chest, and not in the mega-locked closet either... I'm almost sure it was in one of the small chests on a shelf, but don't shoot me. Pick up the copy of the Withershins book too, while you're there, it's another thief quest and a b*tch to get later on. |

Yes, its there in a small chest. And that book..  I got it without even knowing it. So when I got the next job I just handed it over to get another job ^^ |

Can you get to that chest before this quest? I have a very bad feeling I may have looted the damn item ahead of the quest again. I've done it three times, found an item and sold it to a vendor only to have to retrace my steps to find where I sold it.
Does any one have any idea where exactly this item is? I looked all over after getting the quest and could not find it. If it is somewhere without someone constantly watching it then chances are I had already stole it.

I've done this quest in two different games now, and these are my memories. (BTW, because they guy attacked you first and/or because nobody will ever know, this quest doesn't give you a bounty or get you kicked out of the guild. Hence it shouldn't lower your Mage Guild standing, but I haven't checked carefully.)
It's in a "small chest" with a decent (for the early game) lock level, 25 or 50 but not 75, on the top of a shelf or closet or desk or some such. It's in one of the side chambers off the main floor main room where there's usually a person right next to it, but it's high enough up that it's easy to miss when running around looking for it. |
