Fallout 2 patch and Win XP

Last night I re-installed Fallout 2 on my Win XP - Home PC, and could run the game with no problems. However, I could not install the patch. I was getting an error saying something like "c:\windows\sytem32 can not install 16 bit DOS or Windows applications" or something to that effect.

Anyone know a way I could fix this problem ?

There are more recent fan patches than the official one, you might want to consider getting them. There are also a few mods too.

Try here and here for some more Fallout goodness.
