I saw it opening night. It just totally blew Reloaded away, and restored the series in my eyes. Reloaded was just a bunch of fancy computer tricks and a moronic plot, which is cool to an extent, but isn't really worth much in the long run. This one has lots of CGI too, but it also includes some semblance of an interesting and hole-free plot.
I think Reloaded was made just as a set-up for this one. You have to have seen it to udnerstand a lot of what is going on. |

I found the battle in Zion to be an impressive break from the other movies!

I wasn't as dissapointed as with the second movie, but that is probably because I went in expecting The Matrix: Gigli after Reloaded.
I'm just going to erase the idea that there were any sequels made, the first movie does not need sequels, nor do any of them live up to the first, or even make sense in the context of the first movie.
At least the special effects weren't as bad as in the second movie.

Although you're right about the karma thing...
There were just too many plot-mistakes/rules-of-the-world changes for my liking.
Like: Trinity says in #1 that their ONLY weapon against the machines is the EMP, but I thought their machine-guns worked pretty nicely, why not use those in #1?. Or maybe those electro-rifles? Why not those home-made shells? Maybe that's why in #1 facing 3 squids was a oh-my-god-we're-gonna-die situation, while in #3, 1000+ squids barely defeated them. Maybe the machines should have invented machine-guns too? Or ANY sort of long distance weapon, instead of just using their hand-to-hand tentacles? Then the Zion battle would probably have been different.
But at least they didn't continue to bring up that lame spoon. That's one of the things I REALLY hated about Reloaded. |

What about the last hour?
That rather silly superman battle reminded me of Superman, not Jesus. Mostly number 2 with General Zod and his cronies fighting Superman.
One man going up against all odds to save the world/universe/his pet dog/whatever is a common theme.
It's a stretch, Hexy. You're really reaching on this one.

Naa, they were definitely trying to bring religious themes into it. 
Have you seen the Animatrix precursor animations? They clearly show that man struck first, with no moral reason to do so. This is the Catholic Original Sin. The Indian family introduced Karma into the film, adding Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism to the mix.
Neo gives his life for the sake of his fellow man, and indeed is crucified at the end. He shines with some kind of holy light, and is eventually carried off into the unknown on what basically amounted to a high-tech altar.
The preachings actually began in Reloaded with the kid following him around singing his praises, while Jesus... er, Neo points out that actually he saved himself. Neo has a cult following, and people ask him to bless their sick children and to watch over the citizens of Zion, which incidentally is the safe spiritual home of many religions, including Rastafarianism and the Babylonian Hebrews. Much of the film revolved around how much people believed in Neo, whether they were willing to risk everything for him.
At the end, the kid runs around spreading the word that "He saved us! We've been saved!" In the final scene with the Oracle I was hanging on every word, waiting for the phrase "second coming". But they somehow managed to avoid it.
I expect even the Church of Satan could find some core tenets of their belief represented in there somewhere. In fact, there was more than a touch of Vengeance in the air, wasn't there?
The film was basically a retelling of the Passion, but hey. It was still a damn fine film! And yes, the battle for the Dock was fantastic.

I was dissapointed a little, but I am not quite sure why.
I think we have all been influenced by those damn critics saying how bad it is going to be...
I guess if you expected it to be bad then you just wont enjoy it as much. I saw the first one on DVD, only having heard the phrase 'What is the matrix?", therefore having no expectations. As a result I was blown away.
Hype ruins everything...

Well cfmdobbie, I consider myself a fairly religious individual, but I didn't see all the supposed "religion" in this film.
I did notice a disturbing simularity between Ursa and Trinity though.

I don't know if you're talking only about the last one, or the whole trilogy, but if you'd recall the first movie, it began by Neo being told: "You're my saviour man, my own personal Jesus Crist." It kind of foreshadows the theme throughout the movies.
