Oblivion - 20 minute Gamestop/EB Convention DVD

I just watched the Oblivion DVD from last weeks Gamestop/EB Convention.

-20 minutes of gameplay is shown with narration by a Bethsoft employee
-Forests are trippy as hell
-Havok physics are sweet. They show arrows sticking into wood and flesh and you can actually retrieve them. They showed chains that reacted realistically.
-The new conversation system is much more natural. It's context sensitive to what you have heard or know about.
-Inventory system is much cleaner and every single menu looks better
-The compass is not intrusive at all
-Combat looks really fun
-Animation is one of the weakest aspectsof the game
-Framerate looks similar to Morrowind
-The music is orchestrated and very similar to Morrowind. It must be Jeremy Soule
-The parralex mapping is insane. Everything from bricks, to metal, to boards uses it

This is it. The mags, the pictures, the interviews...it's REAL. It's not HYPE. Oblivon is the greates RPG for the next five years!!!

not quite Gothic 3 will be the better game

Are all the dialog in the game spoken? i mean every single piece of dialog is it spoken or is all text like morrowind?

Does the character speak or is he mute?

You said the combat looks good, good how? explain if you can did they show it in first / third person? did they show any magic? you said there was bows and flesh so is the game gorey? When they slash people is there blood and pain effects?

What about the music, was it beautiful like morrowinds? (loved morrowinds title theme thats probably the best theme song ever made)

Sorry havent read anything about Oblivion waiting until the game is out lol.

There is 50 hours of dialogue and all of it is spoken and lip-synched for each character.

Your character does not speak. Just text options.

Combat was shown in 1st and 3rd person perspectives. The combat is more action-oriented, somewhere inbetween Gothic and Morrowind. You activly have to block etc. Spell-casting is very animated and also looks more interactive than Morrowind. And yes, this game has blood & gore. In fact, one scene shows you and other soldiers running through ruins. One of the swords is splattered with blood after a skirmish.

The music is orchestrated and has textures from Morrowind. This music must be Jeremy Soule. The combat music and exploration music sounded perfect for the visuals.

Not much will change all the things the list it will still feel alot like morrowind just better looking, I know i will like oblivion probably but gothic 3 is just going to be more fun.

Just like the first gothic loved it it was amazing, Morrowind i deleted after an hour totally boring :/

But will see i'll play both games and then i'll say for sure but i know i will like Gothic 3 more.

Ive read bits about oblivion not much i dont read every single thing dont wanna spoil anything same with gothic 3.

I watched the DVD. TES4 Looked like Morrowind with much better graphics plus added physics etc..

I know a lot of people will be drooling over Oblivion even more after watching the DVD but I'm not going to buy the game after seeing it.

Oblivion is the game I'm waiting for the most. I played - and loved - all five Elder Scrolls Games before it, and I'm hooked to the franchise. Thanks for the info, Kengo.

You've checked it Paul999999, and you were as impressed as your review (in an other topic) was impressing, maybe you changed your mind about Oblivion, could it be better than Gothic 3? As you said 3 years have been spent to develop TES4...

Let's not judge the games before they come out, but I reckon Gothic wont be bad .They are both next gen titles we should expect great things from each, not just graphical(btw they look amazing) but improvements in gameplay and game immersion.

The main thing i was worried about Oblivion was its combat and magic system (although im the warrior character its nice to see at least some of the spells)

Morrowinds Quest werent very fun, Oblivions graphics are obviously very beautiful the combat looks very fun and action packed and if you can tell im very picky and im impressed by the looks of the combat and magic system.

But i still think the game is going to have that morrowind boring factor with the npc's and the quests but will see when the game is out.

I just know i will like Gothic 3 better because i just love Gothic but will see when both of these are out i'll write a review about both of them i will note every pro and con about both games and i wont trash up Oblivion just cause i like / want to like Gothic 3 Better.

Now the only thing that can screw Gothic 3 up is the combat they said they changed it and now its wasd and mouse controls like a third person action game i think so if they dont do the combat properly well then i'll be pretty mad.

The thing that bothers me is Oblivion has shown alot of screenshots and its combat and magic system (well a bit) and Gothic 3 hasnt shown anything no pics of combat no pics of the main character no pics of magic no nothing when thats released i'll compare those to Oblivions because Gothic also has a fun combat system and you can learn and upgrade you're skills from Teachers so will see.

One thing i do know is Oblivion has Gothic 3 beaten in the music department ive heard some samples of Gothic 3 music and it doesnt go well with the game i was disapointed (Gothic 1's music was nice i liked the title theme)

But Oblivions is just beautiful they are using the same theme from morrowind but changed it just love that.

But im sure Oblivion will fail to Gothic in terms of NPC's and Story.

The lack of game info on Gothic 3 has a very simple reason: no in game screenshots yet, because the parts haven't been put together.

I have not the slightest doubt that PB will manage to deliver a tremendous game, but I DO have doubts that any other PC than the fastest one will be able to run Gothic 3 in a satisfactory manner...
