Translation Mod

Hi,
one question i got with other friends:
I know is possible to translate all the game in my own language (italian), finding time and volunteers, having seen one pic of TES showing the avaliable changes in dialogues.
Anyone can find a link to the pic (or similar) i am referring to ?
Someone of my friends say that not creating new content but just translating the existent could create some legal issues to fight with, can i have your opinion ? Rend ? others ?

tks in advance,
cardigait

Well most if not all ingame text should be accessable via the editor. And since the game was designed to be edited I can see no legal issues as long as you didn't sell the mod. I haven't got a copy of the game yet so I can't really tell for sure though.

I am not sure about that - but you won't be able to translate the spoken text... maybe record it?

I thought that the European versions were going to be translated. Italian is one of the major languages (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish) - and hence wouldn't it be translated?

Well, to the (to what i heard) few spoken phrases i think we can survive, the thing that scares me more is about legal issues, but the more i think about it, the more i come to say that it will be no matter.
The translate project would be huge, but just in the last days the same people i'm speaking about has just released the italian version of PS:T, all non-professional people, and the result is awesome

P.S. Rend, while in the week-end you'll preview TES, would you mind take a picture of the section I was speaking about (the one about editing books and most of all dialogues) ? If it is possible, np anyway.

Bye,

Logic would say yes, experience say no
Italian translation has always been few in the past (hell, when i was younger it was easier to get the video recorder instructions or a software manual in klingon than in italian), in the last years they started translating many games, but the result in some cases has been awful.
They made me quit BGII, having minsc speaking like a woman or simply matching the speak of a npc with another; i understand that my language is hard to translate but wtf
I thank god they didn't translate PS:T

To tell the last example, in the italian homepage of ubisoft (www.ubisoft.it), the local distributor of Morrowind, in the right panel you have a pool where you choose what race you'll play.
Wooden Elves has been transated in Elves of wood !
Seems like iin the italian version we'll be able to play Pinocchio in morrowind

Bye,

Do not worry, one can just plug it into the Microsoft Word XP Translator. Even though the translation means nothing the what is origanly was, no one will know the difference .
