absolutely NOTHING at startup
   

I click on the exe and absolutely NOTHING comes up. I check the task manager and Gothic2 is still responding.

I tried using a cracked exe (my version's legit, don't worry) and I actually got the "Please wait while initializing and configuring the Virtual Disk File System" Progress bar. I wait, then I get an illegal error at Gothic2.exe

You obviously have copy protection problems. Read the FAQ to find out which programs G2 doesn´t like.
CP issues are typically related to outdated IDE or chipset drivers and programs like Daemon Tools.
