I've looked over these forums for a couple days now and have noticed some people talking about setting the maxFPS. I am getting very poor frame rate on a very high end PC with all the latest drivers. My framerate is about 21 fps at every resolution from 640X480 - 1600X1200. I tried translating the German site with little luck. It is still too difficult to understand. Is there a file in the Gothic directory that can be edited?

My machine:
Pentium 4 1.7GHz
512megs 800mhz RDRAM
Abit TH7-RAID mobo
Geforce3 Ti500
DUAL 40Gig HDD in RAID
Sound Blaster Live!

I am not a newbie to PC games so please don't give me any lame responses. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

The frame rate is set dynamically by the game engine - you cannot set the frame rate independently. I (and I believe most on this forum) find the frame rate quite satisfactory for the action of the game. If you just turn off the frame rate monitor and ignore that technical detail and play the game - everything will likely be fine.

Thanx for the info. I'm aware of the Dynamic Framerate control. I was hoping it could be disabled. It would likely make my framerate worse but I would still like to experiment. I already finished the game and I can say it's an awesome game. I just can't understand why my brother has a P3 800256megs and a Geforce1 and he gets the exact same framerate. Something doesn't seem right. Also, I set all the options to the lowest value and my framerate is very similar to the highest settings (5-10 fps difference). Either way, I won't let it keep me from playing this great game. 640X480 Should not get the same framerate as 1600X1200. I use FRAPS 1.6 to view framerate. thanx for the help Joey Nipps

You can find a detailed explanation how the engine sets the framerate in this thread:

I´m 99% sure you can ramp up the framerate with the ModKit, but there must be a reason why the framerate was configured like it is.

The fact that you get 21fps instead of 19-20 like most other people shows your machine is configured correctly and works really fast. Increase the resolution, activate FSAA and be happy with it.

Why do you use Fraps? Gothic has an internal frame counter. Type 'toggle frame' in the console.
