Is pickpocketing worth it? |
|
I'm still in chapter one and I mdae the first quest for the thieves' guild, but I want to become a Paladin later on, so is the pickpocketing skill worth it? |

Absolutely. The more you steal from others, the more EXP you get.
Of course, your Dex has to be high enough. |

You'll need a lot of dexterity. in Gothic 2 (without addon) this is realisable even for a strength-based character and so certainly worth it.
In NotR only dex-based characters can get good enough. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

Thank you both for the answers, but I now have a "double-bladed" answer.
Since I'm going to play as a paladin, then it isn't worth it, right? (NOTR) |

Pladio,
IMO, it's always worth it. It's just that the level you get your Dex to will determine how much you can do with it. Even when I ran a Strength-base Paladin, there are plenty of things in the game that will help you get extra Dex without LPs. It's just that you may not get all the way up to 100+ Dex. Even so, there's lots you can get through Pickpocket to make your life easier with lesser Dex. _________________ imposterAZ

Definitely go for it. But from what I've heard and read, it might be better to wait until Ch. 4 or 5 to get more experience from your successful pick-pocketing attempts. Maybe someone else here knows for sure - I never kept count personally. Of course if you need some cash now near the beginning, this could be quite helpful. As far as playing as a strength based Paladin goes, what imposteraz said in his msg is straight to the point. As a matter of fact, if you're smart about how you use your LPs (do a search on this for many helpful tips) you can have it all. You have be careful about speading yourself a little thin, but I started out thinking I was going to be a brute force kind of Paladin, but later in the game I got access to a really serious damage crossbow (strength is important in NotR for this), and I have ended up killing most enemies from a distance with it. Of course I still use my 2-hander for some encounters, it seems that different weapons are better suited for different enemies. Good luck. |

Spoiler:
Yeah, but from what I know, pickpocketing is only taught by Cassia, so I have to learn it by chapter 3, because she's a goner.
So, I learn it know and wait till chapter 4 or 5 to use it?
Thank you for all the answers. |

Get it as long as you are not a mage. If you train dex to 30 you will have enough to pickpocket everyone in the game after you use tablets and potions of dex you find. It doesn't matter when you start pickpocketting in NotR but in classic G2 it is best to wait till chapter 4-5. |

Actually, I haven't even been to the sewers (thieves) this time around. See Below.
Spoiler:
Bill the pirate (on the beach in the Add-on world) will also teach Pick pocketing. You have to do something for him first, IIRC.

No, he means Bill. There's a whole Pirate encampment in the new Addon world in NotR and Bill is one of the Pirates. See Cavalorn, Vatras and Lares to get started with the Addon world stuff. _________________ imposterAZ

Oh, in the addon world...
Yeah, but I'm still in chapter one...oh but then I don't have to learn pp now, I can learn later on, so I don't waste any LPs in chapter 1, right? |
