Backstabbing

Ok here's a quick question that I'm sure you've all heard before... but somehow I'm still unclear.

I know you have to sneak up to the NPC and attack with your weapon while the security icon is still shown. I have not been able to successfully do this though. Is there anything weird that I might need to look out for?

Also, Is it possible to sneak/ and hit with the bow for a critical hit?

Thanks,
- J

I find it difficult to sneak too but I have been able to sneak up on NPC'S once or twice. Where do you stand on SNEAK skill? I have sneak as a minor skill @ around 15. I imagine if your SNEAK skill is just a misc. skill you will have a tough go at it. If SNEAK is a major skill developed over time you should be more successful.
If you can get your hands on the Chameleon spell, try casting it on yourself first and then use sneak. This should improve your chances.

Well I just started a dark elf assassin (lvl 1 sneak [major]). I was just wondering for the future about how it will work.. I figured it wouldn't work for me now (in the beginning).

About the other question though. Can you critical hit with a bow while sneaking? Or is it only Backstabbing?

Thanks,
- J
