Simply ignore this whole rating system bullshit! The German version was rated 12 here. This means nothing.
Xicat went for the teen rating because itīs consistent with their marketing strategy. EA did the same with Ultima. Ultima never was a game for kiddies, the target audience was mature. |

Xicat's strategy is to make me not buy the game then. I will never reward censorship. I cast my consumer vote as THUMBS DOWN. |

I just deleted a lot of this post.
I have no idea of what I was talking about.
The rating on the box in North America is what sells.
If it's being sold in Wal-Mart, or Zellers, or K-Mart, then it's not worth buying if you're older than 15 years old.

"If it's being sold in Wal-Mart, or Zellers, or K-Mart, then it's not worth buying if you're older than 15 years old."
that is a stupid way of looking at it. games have a hard enough time making their money back here in america. let's face it, gothic will NOT be a big seller. the game is amazing, but it will not catch on big here.
the "teen" rating will get the game in the above mentioned stores and get them money they deserve.
i've played the US version all day long and i see nothing watered down or wimpy enough for me to notice. i do not need nudity or cursing in the game. you people that have played the "real" version of the game might care, but as far as i know, i'm playing a near flawless RPG and am happy it's out here.
the voiceover work is great and the game is FUN. isn't that what matters most?

The whole part of Gothic that set it aside from the rest of the "run of the mill" 3rd person RPG's was the fact it was geared towards a more mature audience. The nude scene set aside, it was the realistic language that was used that allowed you to believe in the world even more. Much the same as what Fallout and Fallout 2 did for the RPG scene back then. They had adult situations and graphic language, along with incredible roleplaying elements and one of the best in house rules ever created. |

They will end up losing A LOT of sales due to all the censorship and editting. The publishers obvious didn't understand what Gothis was all about at all!
Imagine if an English fantasy novel such as George R. R. MArtins GAME OF THRONES series was translated to another language and the new publisher decided to edit and change much of the content so they could target it at YOUNG children. It would absolutly ruin the entire story. Sure some kids might read it and be unaware of where it even originated...and they might even enjoy it... but the adults it was meant for are getting the shaft.
I am sick of this entire "Computer Games are meant for little children" mantra that is so previlent today. I am just SICK OF IT.
TEEN GOTHIC... yeah right... screw that.
I'll check back here later and see if a patch has been released by a dev. Thanks to everyone that bought it to give us the run down. This entire censorship crap pisses me off to no end. |

With the game being cencored I think people will be less hesitant to turn to piracy... A lot of people who otherwise dislikes pirated copys of games (like me for instance) will most likely feel that it is quite justified in this case since it is not a "complete" game that is being sold... *I* certanly feel less inclined to pay full price for a game that has been cut and mutilated (Nomatter how you look on it that is what it is)...
I have however heard that it is going to be sold pretty cheap, and if that is the case I will still buy it rather then getting a free pirate copy...
The cencorship is probably not going to be all that bad in Gothic though... Swearwords will probably still be in even if they will be weaker, and possibly a bikini will be put on the previously naked woman... It won't really change the essence of the game that much... The problem is of cause that most people don't want it changed at all (it's the principle of the thing that matters), and as has been previously stated by other people a lot of sales will probably be lost because of it...
The cencors win, the pirates win, PB loses... A sad state of affairs if you ask me... |

Censorship is just there because of stupid parents... if you are above 18 or 21, don't care !
At least the game is not really censored : you can buy it. A really censored game would mean we couldn't even buy it !!!
( I think about the problem with carmageddon 2 here in france a few years ago... )

Anyone ever wondered WHY is this taking so long? The developer just want to keep us in hungry? And WHY does every game arrive first to US, why not to Europe at the same time?
Anyway, there is no sense in censoring if those kids can as well see naked women getting fucked on the internet. You can't swear in a TV-gsm-chat, but what do they do in every movie -swear...The situation is the same. |

I don't know about you guys, but I play Gothic because of the gameplay - not because I get off on hearing people curse.
A 'teen' rating shouldn't automatically mean, "This game is lame and not worth buying" to you. If it does, you should stop buying games and start buying hardcore porno - that's all you want, after all. |

i love the game i don't care about the rating stuff, if i want nudity i can watch porno, but it's all about the gameplay i care not about nudity and cursing. So for all of you who not enjoy this game simply because of the editing part, get over it....this is a game not adult movies. |

You last two Anon posters need to frickin' read this thread. People aren't mad about PB taking out the naked chick, they're mad about PB taking out *anything*. As already said, it's the principal of the thing.
This same situation happened with Giants, where they put a bikini top on the blue alien mermaid girl. However, they left it so that you could change the name of a file and revert it back, which, to me, is a nice way of dodging the censors. Maybe they'll do the same here, but I doubt they would bring back actors to voice in "Shit" and such. |

Okay, seems it has to be posted in every single thread.
The problems are solved!
Language, drugs, etc. are uncensored. The only change PB made was the bikini for the babe. Delete the bikini texture file and she is naked.
