Just to perhaps clear this up a bit more:

The recipe Opolos wants to look at and Brother Neoras wants you to find can indeed be found in the monastery larder. If you have not already done so, speak to Brother Gorax and get his quest for distributing the sausages to the novices so you can enter the room and when you are there carefully search the room to locate the recipe.

Once you have the recipe take it first to Opolos and let him see it for the exp points (even though he won't be able to make heads or tails of it) then return it to brother Neoras for the final amount exp points.
