For me, ARX is nearly *the* game I wanna play... (no outdoors env. )
It's a 1st person realtime 3D CRPG; my favorite genre. ( and I think it's the future of games ( think when we'll have direct machine-to-brain connection !! ))
Could you tell me if I miss a great game that fits in that genre ?
I've played :
* Dungeon Master (on Atari ST)
* Domarks games (on Atari ST)
* Cybercon III (on Atari ST)
* legend of valour ( ST )
* UnderWorld series
* an old game from black isle studio ( can't remember its name )
* System shock 1 & 2
* Thief series ( not RPGs , huh ? )
* Deus Ex

The old Interplay game is possible "Descent to Undermountain".
Others that come to my mind (not talking about quality):
- Dungeon Hack
- Demise
- Angband /AngbandTK
I am sure there are a lot of other games like those, but I would have to browse my collection (which is at home, and i am not *g*).

2. Anvil of dawn
3. Daggerfall
4. Stonekeep.
5. Realms of arkania serie.
6. battlespire.
7. Lands of lore serie
8. Might & Magic Serie.
9. Bards tale serie.
10.Betrayal of krondor.
11.Wizardry serie.
12.Ravenloft serie

I can't remember the names of more, but there are a lot of offsprings to these originals.
The mentioned ones are all 1. person viewport games, but not all 3D or realtime, but all CRPG's, old and new, good and not so good ones. |

Thanx for the "few" more games !!
But I forgot to say I like games with *real 3D / freelook * feature ! ( it's what i mean by saying/writing "realtime" ) !!
Maybe this thread is misplaced... |

Well, The real 3D feature, really narrows the selection down, But my above mentioned list of games still includes a lot of games with freelook( or allmost) in realtime (Not step based movement).
In consideration could also come the games where you can get a viewport just above the characters heads in freelook realtime mode like "Summoner" and "Ultima IX", they also give a somehow immersive gameworld experience. |

Ups, I just recall that I have forgotten to mention Kings Quest 8. Fits right into your genre of preferable games.

Well the Kings Quest serie from Sierra, is recognized as adventure games only, but in the last (and final)sequel KQ8, the game went 3D and 1.person realtime. It still have lots of adventuring and puzzles, but also realtime fighting and a little character development.
I'm sure this game could catch your interest.
The game has got some bad critics, mostly because the fans of the adventure genre was dissappointed with the more action oriented game unlike the 7 previous games.
The graphics may seem a bit dated, but it's still a very playable game, also for more hardcore CRPG fans. |

If you're into console RPGs check out the king's Field series for the Playstation. |

Check out the new game Gothic, it fits.
Also Outcast, even though it is not RPG but more like an adventure and third person. I think of it about as highly as of the Underworlds. Must have if you haven't played it and value immersion in games, can be bought cheap repacked.

Because when Lanael first started this thread the date was 7 sep. 2001, so over 1 year ago, and Morrowind wasn't out back then. I don't know why somebody have digged this old thread up again! _________________ Moderator on RPGdot.com Forum.
