Spell Help

Guys,

I know the answer to this is probably in the manual somewhere....but I am at work and the book is at home.

So,

I am a mage/fighter (elf) level 8 mage, level 2 fighter (just to get some melee ability).

When I find or go to purchase spells, if I "mouse-over" them, the ones I cannot definitley use have a red bos around them.

So I assumed I could use any others. But I cant, it comes up with "You can only learn Arcane spells".

How can I tell the difference before buying them and then selling back at a loss??

Also, how can I see what level you have to be to use a spell ??

At the beginning of a spell description, it mentions caharcter types with a number after them. Is that the level ?? dont think so. What does that refer to?
Also, what does Innate level refer to.

As I said, I am a level 8 mage. H ave I messed-up by choosing 2 levels of fighter??

Hope someone can.

Regards,

Hexmaster.

If you examine the scroll (eye icon on the radial popup), it will give you all the information you need.

On the spell it will have a description if it is an arcane or devine spell. I could be wrong, but everybody can actually use devine spells. Only devine casters though, can memorize them. These spells don't suffer from the armor penalties, while arcane do.

Innate level, AFAIK, is the level at which wizards/sorcerers have these spells available to them for selecting. You need to be a level 3 wizard in order to be able to pick summoning II as one of your spells in the spellbook, assuming you didn't learn it form the scroll before.

Scrolls can be used at any time. Meaning, you can use a scroll that has on it a spell with innate level of 16, at level 1. As long as you're allowed to use arcane scrolls, it's fine.

As far as messing up your character goes... I doubt it. Unless you had some specific goal in mind which can only be achieved by lvl 19 or 20 mage, I woudln't worry about it. You will still be able to get 9th level spells (albait only 1, but...). And to offset few missing spell slots from your spellbook, you'll have proficiencies with many weapons, few extra perks, more hit points and greater hit dice if you need to do some in your face combat. Personally, I would perhaps multiclass into Berserker, or Ranger, or even a Cleric, but Fighter is just fine. Bottom line, as long as you're having fun *nervously looks around for any signs of Myrthos*, you didn't mess up.
