I saw the first few positive reports yesterday in the http://www.rage3d.com forums. 
Search their forums to find out all the details. It´s pretty creepy stuff.
The short version:
Get the latest drivers (I´m not sure if official, beta or hacked), have some device consume another output signal to get access to the multimonitor features, do some more stuff I forgot and Gothic und a few other games should run under Win98.
The guys experimented with tvs, camcorders and dongles as secondary devices. |

good job man!!!!! i just tried it and it works, finally i can play gothic! i have the 8500 and winME and that trick worked for me

Could you please give us a detailed explanation how you fixed the problem?

Ich kann es Dir leider nicht genau sagen,da ich selbst keine Radeon besitze (habe ich auch nie behauptet). Deshalb auch der Hinweis auf die Rage3D Foren und die reichlich komische Problemlösung sowie meine mit Absicht schwammige Kurzfassung.
Steck mal einen Fernseher oder einen 2.Monitor in die Radeon um Zugriff auf die Multmonitoroptionen zu bekommen. Vielleicht reicht ja das allein schon aus.
Die Bastellösung mit dem Dongle sieht nicht ganz so vertrauenerweckend aus.
