Yes.

And I always do. Nothing more irritating than swapping CD's out and it's faster to load to without safedisc.

Dhruin, any problems in multiplayer? I imagine the cd-key gets authenticated properly so no problems should exist. I'll have to try that, I could finally put my NWN CD in a safe place.

The last patch supposedly upgraded the security for the game... a lot of people with copied CDs or no-CD cracks are screaming bloody murder.

I'm sure we will see new cracks to go around that in a few days

Oh good, I see I'm not a lone wolf on this issue. Can someone post a link for a reliable no-cd crack for this game? Nothing is more irritating than swapping cds to play a game.....especially when you paid $60 bucks for it.

I only play NWN SP or on a LAN so I can't verify open internet MP. There is a patch for SP and a separate MP patch. Mostly these just replace NWMAIN.EXE and NWSERVER.EXE. I'm always careful to back up the current original .exe and I put it back when applying game updates.

eg., when I want to upgrade to 1.21 I'll check that a no-Cd patch exists for 1.21, then copy back the correct 1.19 before starting the upgrade (I'm careful - not sure how necessary this step is).

The MP no-CD stops NWSERVER.EXE from "calling home" but as far as I have seen (no guarantee) this only affects gamespy and listing open internet servers.

I apologise if this link is inappropriate but I get all my no-CD cracks from =The link is indeed inappropriate. Jaz=

Forgot to add: where there are multiple cracks for your version look for ones from Deviance or that just replace the .exe files (so you can just put back your backed-up original if you have trouble).

These are dangerous grounds. No-CD cracks invite playing illegal copies, a policy we do not support in the least.

* sorry *

Didn't mean to cross the line and I accept the policy.

@Jaz, true, but many leagal gamers use noCD-cracks and the cracks themselves are not illegal (except in US). Atleast I use cracks on almost every game I buy, just to get rid of CD-swapping. I reinstalled my OS a few days ago and I've been quite busy hunting proper noCD-cracks for my games.

Atleast in MW thread the discussion was allowed because of the amount of problems safedisc caused to players. NWN has been experiencing quite similar problems with many users, so I think this discussion is valid.

The discussion may be valid, but since there are legality issues with no-CD cracks we should not link them here.

mDrop, the Morrowind thread was allowed because it was NOT a NO-CD crack. It simply got rid of the safe-disc. The link provided went to a crack that would allow a copied game on your pc to work without the cd in the drive. This allows for theft of the game and that is not supported by RPGDot, and will not be allowed within these forums.

Feel free to discuss the issues and search on your own for ways, but unless the crack still requires the cd (as the game developer intended), the links will not be allowed on this site.

Now, I own the game, and I have downloaded the crack to see if it does improve my gameplay, but I will not knowingly share the file with a person who has not paid the developers for their time, sweat and tears. Bottom line in my view is if I make something FOR PROFIT and someone else uses it without paying me, what was the point? There is NOTHING wrong with filling a market with viable goods. There is something Terribly wrong with theft of those goods.

I am not accusing anyone here of theft. I am saying that the link opens the channel for theft and will not be tolerated on RPGDot.
