I was wondering if I was a mage and started wearing heavy armor what sort of penalties will I notice? I know DnD has arcane failure rate and on WoW and on most other RPGs casters can only wear cloth. Couldn't someone create a character that is basically all 3 types of characters? Like heavy armor + shield/sword, use spells, and have sneaky skills?

From what I understand you can do all of that just like you posted.
Although I read that you need to make sure to keep yout footware light so you can still sneak. You also might need to watch your encumbrance level too... |

You can make any type of character you want. There is an option called Custom Character Class, you can pick 1 major emphasis(Fighting, Magic, Stealth) and seven major attributes. _________________ Between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities…there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars…Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand…to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet. - Robert E. Armour does affect casting - but that's moderated by the "Amour" skill. So, you'd want to tag that as a major skill, and perhaps start with light armour until you got the skill high enough to allow for reliable casting with heavy armour.
Otherwise, as the others have said, you can create a mixed character as you like. _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |
