Next time, I'm going to have an Alchemist.

I'm not even done with my first time through Wiz 8 yet, but I usually play rpg's at least twice and try something new.

I'm going to play Gothic again as a Mage instead of a fighter and then I'm going to do Wiz 8 again with a different party.

Alchemists look fun.

So I think I'm going to give one a try. And a Gadgeteer, I keep looting all these neat things for gadgets that I can't use.

Have you played a Ninja or Ranger? Their Alchemy skill can be almost as good, and they get better armor and weapon options (they don't get the 25% ALC bonus, nor do they create Potions out of nothing, but they can mix just as well...)
