Entry to the Abandoned Mine!

You guys remember that first mine with the closed gate in front of it on the path at the very beginning of the game? The one on the path that lead up and across the first bridge where you get your first sword and then kill your first molerat? I went back there and used the transform into meatbug spell and went inside. If you run in deep enough, first the screen goes pitch black, then a little further a loading screen comes up (like the one you see when entering the old mine). I went into the abandoned mine, for the most part when moving around everything is pitch black. The torches don't help at all. In fact, they do nothing. I tried dropping several of them around, in hope of it lighting up the area a bit. That didn't work. I'm curious if anyone knows what its there for? Another unfinnished part of the game Gothic designers never finnished perhaps? Or is there a secret there if you run far enough to a certain location? Any success in this attempt would be nothing more than luck, due to the unavoidable darkness. Let me know if anyone finds anything in there. Oh, another thing I found interesting: transforming spells do not work in the abandoned mine. The screen flickers red a few times and then he appears in his regular human form, as he was initially.

I forgot to mention one more thing. The gate appears very close to the ground. Once in meatbug form it might be tricky getting in. Just wiggle around back and forth. Focus in on the right corner of the gate. It took me a minute to get through the gate. I'm guessing once Gothic Designers decided they weren't going to have time to finnish the mine and make it part of the game, they just tried to cover up any pissible entry by raising the terrain a bit. Try it if you haven't already.

There's nothing in the abandoned mine.

Yeah. It's abandoned.

Even the programmers abandoned it before the game was released!

Do you go right? Or do you go left? A simple decision, yes? No ambiguities. Only the dream of the path not taken! And so one might stand in this place and contemplate for a long while. What will I miss if I go left? What will I lose if I go right? And in my indecision, have I chosen a worse fate?

In the GOTHIC.INI set "cameraLightRange=100000"

Maybe you can see anything.

You could also just have activated MarvinMode and pressed K.

Actually the Abandoned Mine was originally going to be another dungeon. Whether it was going to be plot relevant or what it was like (or what was going to be in it, for that matter) we probably will never know. Another abandoned thing like this is the bandit camp. There was originally going to be a quest for the guy named Quentin in there, but it was abandoned (probably do to time and/or money), so the bandit camp just turned into a veritable goldmine of XP and loot.

It seems like the addon for G2 came out to "finish" G2, too bad they couldn't have come out with one to finish G1 also.
