disable virtual disk file system?

my computer crashes(blue screen of death, access violation, or plain crash with no error) within 2 minutes from getting into ANY game other then *halflife, savage, and priston tale*.
yes i have windows xp and i get windows stop errors and i have looked into this many times.

Gothic 1 & 2 and black and white work, but they crash at random times (whether it be 2 hours from when i got into it or 1 minute)

after gothic 2 crashes and i try and go back in i have to wait a long time while it builds the virtual disk file system (or whatever it is), and then the main menu loading screen is longer as well.

anyways, i know Gothic 2 is only supposed to do this like once when u first play it. but i think i have spent more time looking at Gothic loading screens and the building of virtual file disk system then accually playing the game. and sometimes when i get a blue screen of death it erases my save game and resets my gothic.ini file!

is there some way to disable the virtual disk file system from building it every single time i start up gothic 2 after its crashed?

This is explained in the FAQ.

I doubt removing the file will stop your problems. It looks like something with your PC is going completely wrong.
